This morning I was on the front page of Twitter when one of the popular topics has caught my eye. After clicking on it I saw somebody spamming the same stuff over and over again. So every time your Tweet contains one of the "POPULAR TOPICS BY THE MINUTE, DAY, AND WEEK" you end up on the list.

Obviously you only stay at the top of the list for a few seconds because of the volume of Tweets so that spammer was posting the same Tweet containing that keyword over and over again with minor adjustments at the end to make the Tweets unique.

    What I did:

    1) Registered a new account and added a bright, eye catching avatar.
    2) Wrote a new Tweet containing eye catching http://www.semclubhouse.com/special-characters-for-twitter/ and as many of the the hot topics as possible.

Example: ☀☀☀☀☀☀BUY THIS -LINK-☀☀☀☀☀☀☀ hot keyword 1, hot keyword 2, hot keyword 3, hot keyword 4, hot keyword 5
    3) Posted the Tweet, waited for 10 or so seconds and deleted it. Then posted it again and deleted it. Over and over again so that I would always appear at the top of the list of Tweets about that hot toppic.

I was about to record a macro that would do the step 3 for me automatically when my account got suspended. Even though I only lasted 20 or so minutes I have manage to make 7 CB sales related to one of the hot topics. That was absolutely mental! I created another account and repeated the process. This time I only lasted a minute and did not sell anything.

I suppose Twitter users just report you for spam so its a bit of the lotter how long your account actually lasts.

    Let the brainstorming begin...

That tells me we need a bot that scans for top hashtags (#) and add them to our posts.
    Ex:
    Hot babes playing - (link) #RipMJ #Obamma #followfriday

If what you are saying is correct, we are standing on a gold mine.

Lol that is MAD! Were the CB products related to the hot topic keywords in any way?

Edit: Nevermind.. missed the "7 CB sales related to one of the hot topics"

The hardest part is to keep your account alive or create a new one fast enough.

Good work, a bot would be very useful here although it would be possible to do it manually in the short term. Would probably need to change IPs and have a stack of backup accounts.

Would you say this hot topic was particularly monotonisable (i.e. providing there was search traffic, were you to set up an adwords campaign for it would you be able to make money from it reasonably easy) or was it just that it was a hot topic and twitter users were clicking it on that basis?

A bit of both. It was quite competitive.

"Meet Your Spouse" does not even appear in search results for today so something is wrong.

I had no idea those tags were related to finding a spouse online...

    ---

If only I was still into programming I could probably throw a quick tagging/automation program together.

Wow this is going to be great hopefully... I put a twist on the idea and now I hope to make some real cash from this method. I will write a journal on this and how much I make daily if this test goes great. Thanks mightybh.

haha They aren't related. I'm just trying to show up in the search results. I'm not sure I grasp the concept. I just stuffed that tweet with those hot topics and put an aff link. Still no luck showing up in the search results for any of those topics.

found out that http://www.chamillionaire.com/home/releasing-mixtape-messiah-7.html has a little link that makes it so when you sign into twitter, it puts #chamillionaire on your tweets...it also looks like if you put ALL the top keywords, twitter kills your account pretty quickly. I would start with one and see how many we can get away with until the filter bans our account.

Is there somewhere on twitter where you can see more of the trending topics? I can't seem to find any other lists.

Both the twitter home page and the search.twitter.homepage show them. Interestingly, I've just been looking at the twitter API documentation and there are calls you can make the get the current, daily and weekly trends.

Hmm. You've given me an idea. Maybe ill add this onto my twitter friend adder. I was thinking of doing something similar, as in reposting the same twitter post over and over, then deleting it etc. But didnt think of trends.

Im pretty sure that even after you delete the twitter post, it still shows up in the search (Search your username you should be able to find it). As in when you delete a tweet, its deleted from the interface but not from the database (Wasted space IMO).
