For tourist visa extension, you can apply only twice. Then you have to leave the country for 48 hours (most likely to Cambodia ). This method is not fool proof. Eventually you would get rejected with visa if you cannot provide legit reason for staying in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese communist government only wants foreigners who pay taxes in Vietnam or hire local employees aka contribute to local economy. They do not welcome digital nomads who don't contribute to their society.
