$5000 a month from Kindle in 1 year

Ok guys, an update:

My book had about 276 free downloads in the second day.

No reviews yet, though my VA is working on a few review exchanges.

#870ish free sales rank and #5 and #11 for my 2 categories.

Hopefully, things will pick up.

Once this promotion is over, I'll start promotion for the remaining 2 books a week or two later, so we'll have enough time to promote the books.

Is there any type of formula to see how many buys you will get? Like you say 276 free downloads... So when it gets to become a Paid to download book... is it like... say 1/3 of how much it would have been if it wasnt free?

Or is this something thats not possible to know? Because its free... 276 isnt bad if the book is 99cent. Like that would be awsome. Even 1/10th of that wouldnt be bad... 27 downloads at 99cent... every day. for one book. I dunno how much kindle takes out though. Maybe they get a cut too right? Plus probably taxes and stuff

There is absolutely no way to tell. Obviously the more free downloads you get you can expect more sales, but the numbers are in no way correlated.

This has a lot to do with the "freebie" mentality. Lots of people download something just because it's free. They may read a little bit of it or none at all, they just want it because it's free. When someone buys a book, it is with intent and desire to read.

tl;dr you never know

Ya, that's what I was thinking too.

I think I'll know when the free promotion gets over today.

I'm already getting "those who bought this book also bought" section in my sales page, so maybe I'll be seen in those books' sales page too?

Its all speculation now, on my part. I can't tell anything until I've done free promotion for at least 2 books. That's my guess.

But I really hope the free promotion will help with sales in some way. VAs do cost money. :)

I'll update with stats once the promotion is over today. Apparently, the second day was the peak, since my downloads didn't 200+ after that day.

keping an eye on this, ballpark how much are the books costing you

My book had 1800 free downloads in 3 days and I got something like 12 sales within the next 3-4 days before sales slowed way down.

awesome, keep the updates running. I wanna try kindle later. Will be a lesson for me through your journey.

Looks like interesting thread, I wish you good luck with selling and achieving your goal. I'm also working on ebook business - still at the beginning of my journey though, but my focus is more on producing a few ebooks and then focusing on promotion. The main difference between your and my approach is that I'll write ebooks myself since the topic is something I'm passionate about. My goal is also more to test myself as a writer, see whether what I'm delivering is valuable for my readers and therefore grows community that wants to read my content etc. I plan to develop a blog around this niche too, get some attention and then release my first ebook, most probably for free.

Achieving both your and my goal require a lot of dedication and hard work, but it's achievable and there are people out there that already did it.

I'll keep my eye on your journey :)
