301 Penguin Recovery Success

If you read the op you would have seen it's 10 page niche site and not an authority site. I've got lots of sites like this, this one does about $40 a day. Nothing earth shattering but definitely something I didn't want to lose!

This shows that penguin update targets on site optimization more then offsite. And i can confirm that because the majority of my websites that have a keyword density = or less then 1% have jumped in the serp. There's still some other tweaks but i think on page optimization is the most important. Matt cuts have clearly announced in march that the new update will target over optimization.

So 1% is working well too then... do you still put your KW in the title, H1, H2, H3, bolded, italisized and underlined at least once as well? So far I've done that on all my pages - using the H1-H3 as subject headers and the rest within the paragraphs.

I saw one post above where they had a density of 15% that was still ranked well - honestly, that is way higher than I would use. Anyone else that is using the 301 technique or report on their KW density along with effected by Penguin or not?

I use h1 in my logo with the most relevant KWs as "alt" in it. h2 as post titles. I don't use h3 and the rest. I also don't use bold and italics for KWs on the homepage anymore, especially not on OBLs (looks extremely spammy!).

Are you 100% sure that you have had a penalty follow through a 301 ?

No, as OP said - This shows absolutely nothing.

I use the 301 trick on one of my websites and am seeing great improvement, it jumped to #3 yesterday, another website jumped to #2. I still use H1 H2 H3 and co.. But i use LSI keywords too. With a 500-600 words article i don't use my keyword more then 5 times (h1, h2, h3, bolded on first paragraph, italic on last one and i underline my H3 to avoid using the keyword again). Also with low density the article will be more enjoyable and less spammy.

I am not waiting for you or the OP to show me if it's wrong or not. I know it from my experience.

Would you therefore recommend changing on page optimization if a site was hit? I have a client who has had the homepage hit while inner pages remain (some inner pages are obviously keyword stuffed and still remain). All his sites are niche specific and done in the same way and many of them have survived. I can't imagine that being the case.

Also, you say you jumped to #3, but are these new sites that can really benefit from the 301ed juice from another site? I have some sites that need help rebounding, but they are already aged and authority...

I'm not recommending anything, just letting you know what I've done and how it's working.

My site was highly kw optimized and didn't have the best looking backlink profile so either way, in light of reading what Matt Cunts had to say I knew my site wouldn't be coming back in a hurry.

balsagoth007,

Check your keyword density on your pages with an external tool and compare it to what SEOPressor reports to you. I have heard that it only counts the post, not the entire page - and if that's true, your density will be significantly higher than what it reports (cause your keywords are repeated several times on the page that are outside of the post).

I did the same thing for 2 of my sites right after they dropped. De-optimized onpage and did 301 htaccess redirect. Many of my rankings came back even better than they were but both dropped off to >80 yesterday :( Will report if there's changes with results, but doing this don't seem very safe way to go, so atleast I'm waiting before doing anything to my other sites...

Within two weeks the penalty carried over to the new domain and ranks fell. Do note this was pre-panda 3.5 and pre-penguin, which were both released within days of each other. I'm taking the wait and see approach as I work on other projects.

How short of a boost are you talking about? And you're talking since the 24th that you redir'd, new site ranked, and then tanked?

Thanks for feedback.

Is there any plugin, or website to check keyword density ? I would like to see mine, if it's above 3% thats why my site went in bricks
You can use SeoQuake addon to firefox (a very handy thing in many ways)

It's a great story although I believe it's just a coincidence. One of my sites that was hit recovered just like yours and I did add only some content and nothing else. Now a picture is ranking better for my main keyword than the main page. Most of my visitors are landing on inner pages. I am actually very confused what's going on (I did like 2 hours analysis on analytics but nothing make sense as the my rankings actually are different from what is expected to be for the inner page's keywords). BUT you could be right. I am happy about you as I am trying to restore another site and it's not working so far.

Hey guys I read this thread about 301?s. After reading, I would like to do this on one of my sites that tanked really big. However, I have a few questions?

1. When doing a 301 redirect, do I just redirect the home page in the htaccess file? Or do I have to do a redirect for all the internal pages too?

If so how do you do the internal pages? Can you provide and example?

2. When doing a 301 redirect, do I have to name all the internal page urls for the new site the same exact as the old site?

Please let me know.

LOL
New domains always get high positions on the SERPS before it got lost on Sand box ;)

I agree. I have switched out my content with 1000+ words and keyword density below 1%. That alone has made me jump a few pages.

Some other theories I have are removing affiliate links (using php direct), remove meta tags, remove image alts, remove ahref title alts, and removing keywords on internal links.

It's just a theory, but a valid one.
