This is the third post so far and this is probably going to be the most time consuming for me.

Let me start of by saying I am by no means a professional in the IM industry but I do have a good lengthy amount of years experience and I have done pretty well. I had saw a Q&A thread on another forum and it inspired me to make this.

For a few days, Il be answering any questions you have (within reason of course).

    Business related would be preferred.

One question per post please. Let's keep this organised.

I know there are many of you out there who send me PM's, skype requests, emails etc and I can't reply as I'm too busy. Now would be the best time to ask me.. just about anything!

I hope maybe some of you learn a few things from this.

You kind of revived BHW with these 3 threads....

Cannot rep you as I've already done it...

    Cheers.

Edit : Btw, about web 2.0's from 2nd thread, there is a HUGE difference between what people think.

If I make them with unique content (text, images, videos etc), good navigation and everything else, does it matter if they're 'just created' from my IP ?

Or they should be created separately from different IPs and must be aged ?

when your site had been hit, you want to make a new site - do you get a new host, new content and new links. or is there a better way to do it.

what happens to all the unique content you had on the hit site?

    Good Work Leith.

Based on your linkbuilding experience what methods would you recommend to rank a .com or .co.uk into specific markets. I know everyone says geo target in webmaster tools but in a scenario like this.

I have a solid ranking .com(and .co.uk). On top of that they are lready ranking top 30 in 7-8 targeted countries(all English speaking) but want to be page 1 and top 3 for those countries(as well as keeping the top .com rankings)

    Appreciate your input.

Once you have a domain and hosting set up, go with Wordpress. There are a variety of reasons why I love Wordpress over anything else. 5 years ago I used to hate Wordpress. It sounded complicated at that time and one site I was attracted to was Weebly. It was simple and most importantly, it was an easy drag and drop sort of site builder. However, the day I used Wordpress properly, was the day I knew that it was the right solution for me.

You could very easily probably rank for a free blog such as example.blogspot.com or example.wordpress.com. I've done it in the past and it works very well depending on the link building and the type of keywords you go after. Obviously, with a zero budget, you shouldn't expect to rank for payday loans using a free blogspot site as it's virtually impossible in todays world.

Okay, so you had to pick one? I'd go with Wordpress. Here's why:

Blogger lacks many plug ins which could be extra vital to you just incase you may need to upgrade your business later on or if you start expanding at an uncontrollable rate. I had the problem of making a site hosted on Weebly and it became hugely big, raking in thousands and thousands of views a day. The whole migration from Weebly to Wordpress was exhausting so that's one of the reasons why I'd pick Wordpress any day. The availability of plug ins if required is endless. There's just about a plug in for everything.

Obviously, with these free blogs, you don't own them technically. Anything wrong and they can be removed. This is another thing you must consider if you plan on making this a major money making site. How can you afford to lose it? I made the mistake of making a free games coupon site on wordpress.com only to find it gone 3 weeks after and it was beginning to make decent money.

Wordpress.com is fairly easy to use and there's a wide variety of things you can do with it without having to pay. Honestly, the extent of customisations you could do with wordpress.com blogs far overweigh the ones for blogger. But my own advice would be to actually buy some hosting + a proper domain name and set up wordpress.org.

As for articles, HOW many articles can you manage a day? I don't tend to over do my article writing but I like to keep them coming dripped over the month. An article a week is absolutely average but I like to do around 2-3 a week just to keep things going. I drip these over a month to avoid any red flags. Don't post 20 articles the first day and then completely pause it for the next 2 weeks. Keep it coming in naturally and fluently.

As for SEO with no tools, that's a hard one. Believe me, when I started SEO I did have no money so I was basically venturing into anything I could lay my hands on. Some sites have freebies you can take a look and possibly get but with out a decent budget, you won't be able to rank for most good terms. If your keywords are however easy, then what I always do is create web 2.0s with unique content. Believe it or not, these always work and especially considering the fact that your site is going after easy keywords, it will definitely work. Just add in unique content (this is important) and add images/videos where you can. You can drip these out too but again, this would be your best bet for link building if you are going after really easy keywords which it appears you are.

Don't forget to add in your related keywords, etc.. too. Again, with a zero budget and no paid tools its going to be very hard but with a lot of manual work of creating these links, you will do just fine. Just a difference and that is the time you need. One way reduces your workload whilst the other increases it.

To be honest, I don't feel comfortable answering that question - but to keep everyone motivated, I am making enough money per week at the moment for the lifestyle I require.

I've never really had issues with IPs and web 2.0 properties. This is actually the first time I've been asked this and honestly, I can't give you an exact correct answer. I like to keep my properties unique, yes.. with images, videos and all sorts. This ensures that the properties should pass a manual review should that ever be a problem.

However, aged web 2.0s are still better in my opinion. The other day I purchased a batch of aged tumblr sites and added a few links and I did notice that the ranking changes appeared sooner than usual. Age is still a positive factor in any relation to SEO. Whenever I start creating a site, I tend to buy an aged related site for my product then make a new domain. It gives Google the impression that you already have the authority. Don't rely on PR too much these days but keep a good eye on your PA or DA.

So, to answer your question, I don't mind my web 2.0s being on the same IP (my web 2.0s are all unique) and does having an aged one help? Yes, I think it does.

I've had dozens of sites hit and that's part of the game we all play in.

Depending on the type of site and how bad the hit was, I either have two options. One is to go fresh and start everything from scratch as you said so that means new site, new domain, new host, and new content. And of course, new backlinks. This can be time consuming but sometimes its definitely the most bulletproof way to start again and chances of you having any connection to the previous site is minimal. In other words, this would be the best way to start again fresh with no issues.

With a few tools, and some clicks you can turn those unique content into different articles (at least in the eyes of Google). To make the articles quite readable, it's going to require some time as you need to play around with the settings of the tool you use.

What I normally do most of the times is use the 301 practice. There's 2 ways you can approach this. Either make a new site, and 301 the corresponding pages from the previous site. Most of the times, the penalty does not come through but the link juice does. This is risky though and doesn't always work.

The second approach I do when starting any new site is creating a solid foundation. I make up a site and then create or get 3-4 other aged domains. Doesn't have to be aged but that would help. Then 301 those to the main site and start backlinking the tier 2 sites. The juice should still flow through all good and once you have a decent and solid foundation, go ahead and start linking directly to the main site.

I find this method or approach to be far safer and if a Google update does occur, just remove the 301's and start again. Remember, the juice already would have gone through.

I always begin my newly ranked sites with CPA. Works well for me and should for you too!

As for specific market rankings, I don't focus on the link building aspect but rather the host I use etc. If I wanted to rank into the UK market, I always pick a UK hosting although most of them are total garbage compared to ones like Hostgator.

And then I build my standard every day links. This really works well for me and most of the times I rank real good in the UK market and exactly the same in .com. If you were going after different countries, to be honest, Id get domains in that TLD. There are plenty of link brokers, and link sellers around the net who can get you country specific links so that may do the trick. I haven't really done this before so can't say from experience but I don't see why that would not work.

    I'm from London originally.

    • If you don't enjoy what you're doing, then stop doing it. I have said this to countless amounts of people over the past few years and it's pretty straight forward. If you plan to make some serious cash with IM, make sure you actually want to make that money. Don't just do it because you're bored. Have some faith in yourself and make sure you actually enjoy what you're doing.

    • Take risks. You can't run a business or any type without doing so. Sure, you are going to make a few mistakes here and there and that's the whole point. What's the point of not making mistakes? You never know where you're going wrong and you would never know what you can do to improve from your current viewpoint. Be prepared to be totally knocked down and then learn to pick yourself up and come back stronger.

    • Seek different opinions. You're not always right and believe me, I want to think that too. Sometimes its good to ask for advice. I've met some great people here along the way and without their advice, I would never have progressed to where I am now. Even now, I find myself asking lots of people questions and advice.

    • Don't fear change. Sometimes you need to change a few things for the better so make sure you fully understand this. Yeah yeah.. old is gold, whatever. A change is for the good so take it with warmth and appreciate it. Things will not always go the way you want in the IM world so be prepared to take sudden changes.

    • Don't leave the eggs in a single basket or they're going to get stolen. I made the mistake a few years ago and now I make sure everything I do is varied. If Google decided to knock down my sites, that won't affect my earnings. If I didn't have no clients for the next 6 months, that won't affect my earnings. You need to make sure you have different projects, unrelated to each other, making you money. If one should fail, you still have 10 others backing you up whilst you start fixing the problem of the one that just went down.

Sorry for all the spelling / grammar mistakes. I'm not proof reading these and you can imagine why! :)

    1. I do not do much Youtube so I can't again give you a sure fire correct answer.

    However, from my past experience and the way Youtube has changed certain things right now, I'd say some factors would be;

    • Retention views (there are various sellers selling these at the moment and these seem to be a big factor when it comes to ranking in youtube these days).

    • Likes, favourites and comments (again, these are just standard things which you may already know).

    • Backlinks. Now, a few months back a friend of mine on Skype told me he could rank my youtube videos with spam. I do not know if this method or principle still works but it may work and I don't see why it would have changed. Take your youtube video just like any other URL, and spam it for your keywords / long tails, etc. You might notice a nice effect.

    • Make sure your videos have the keywords in the titles, descriptions, etc. Again, its just like standard SEO and on page.

    2. I'm not entirely sure so that would have to be something you try out yourself and report back to me when you do. I believe it will be effective so why not give it a go.

    3. Yep, as I've said above, this is something I did back in June or July. I don't know if things have changed since then but back then blasting a good thousand or so PR 1+ blog comment lists usually got me ranking for some pretty good terms. Scrapebox was my tool for this.

This is awesome Lieth. You created thread [1/3], [2/3], [3/3]. Just shows your level of thinking: You already have in your mind and game plan and end goal.

I'm not kissing ass here. Just making an observation! To be the best you need to think like the best.

I'll post some questions here for sure! ;)

    Hello Leith,

Would you please advice me on how to find niches and build authority sites in those niches. I have used almost all the keyword research tools and google planner, but seems that I cannot find a good niche as all of them are full of competition PR 3 and above, even for the easiest ones.

I have always ended up outsourcing everything and buying websites, but I want to do them myself and it looks as hard as I try, I end up not finding anything worthy of starting an authority site.

    Anything will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!
