I think we should stop trying to rank for 'the main keywords' and concentrate on creating quality content around that keyword and then optimising the page to pick up longer tail keywords. Too many people get caught up in trying to rank a for a specific keyword that they completely forget what we are actually trying to achieve. Which is getting quality traffic to the site.
