Based upon build drip feed links only. Spam or Natural. Always drip feed safe for ours.

why you try to create links artificially, if your site gets popularity from SMM then automatically other people will link your site naturally..
Never. If you're post ebooks, infographics and whitepaper. Others are refer to your site and get backlinks also. But mostly Buyers are buying links and develop SERP improvement.
Actually you're telling Brand Development. Not SEO - Link Building. Like "Hubspot" are doing referral content.

SEO thesedays ... SEO is FIRE, SOCIAL MEDIA IS GASOLINE ! We need social signals as well for SEO. Social media has changed the way SEO works. Post shared on fb and re tweets re tweeted from twitter have much more changes to rank and get indexed faster than the ones with out social power. so i think 2014 will rely a certain portion on Social signals as well

does directory submissions still works in 2013? I think you should consider removing it from the poll.

Depends on directory, quality custom made directories with some traffic and no thousands of spammy links should be good.
Not sure about own network also. We've so many stuff need. Better to invest some another like Infographics creation and distribution, ebooks, whitepaper and webinars. Sure 'll get some brand development and 200% sure 'll get referral links also.
