$2000/month in two months...

I joined about a week ago and have spent most of the week reading hundreds of pages. I love the community I see. I've noticed a lot of journeys start out pumped and then end after a few posts, hoping this one is different. I'll post every step of the way but I do have a life that pulls me away from the keyboard at times.

Here is my intro that will help start this off:

I'm a programmer and entrepreneur. By no means would I oversell myself as a pro programmer, but I've got some good experience. I also built a few crawlers for a company a few years ago. have to dust of some of those old notes because I think that will come in handy.

I've always known about SEO but saw it more as an annoyance. Now I'm hooked. I'm in a bit of rush to start making side money because my parents really need my help. I have current income but a side business would be quite helpful. I know plenty of how much work it'll take and I'm thrilled to take it on. My goal is $2000/month from new side projects in the next 2 months and ideally requiring little maintenance time after initial creation. Yes that's a pretty big goal from what I've been reading but, I'll at least get close. I just started really learning SEO last week when I joined this site, but by no means am I a newbie to business and technology.

Here is what I have so far (started a week and a half ago):


  • 1 non SEO related service, started developing 2 weeks ago and its almost up and running. looks very promising.
  • 8 niche ideas for afiliate marketing ( 2 good, 2 ok, 1 not too good, 3 not fully researched yet)
  • 2 ideas for SEO services I can build
  • amazon associates account since 2008
  • Plenty of passion and dedication


=$0 seo/new side project income ( That will change soon, slowly but surely)


I'm hoping to make my first sale in the next 4 days from the no-seo service I've been building. Lets see how it goes!

Thanks Aluminium. I just read through your journey and will post on it. I too had some ideas for doing more local stuff, but probably wont do much of that for another few months.

They say patience is a virtue! I've made plenty of mistakes and surely on my way to making more but I'm in it for the long haul. Thanks for the support!
 
My goal was to start making sales by tomorrow on my non-seo service. Had a busy weekend doing some volunteer work so didn't get to code as much as I had planned. Going to work on it for most of the day today, so sales by tomorrow are still possible but a rush. Might end up not selling til next weekend. On the upside I loged-in to an old google adwords account I had since 2009 and it still has $100 credit on it from a voucher. Pretty cool that they left the account alive and with the voucher.


Tip: When your overwhelmed with a project, it might be because your looking at the project as a whole and not the specific steps you have left. Take a step back, focus on writing a detailed TO DO list to get a clear path to completion...Worked for me last night.

Yeah I've got 2 non seo services that I'm creating. Using SEO to market them. I think they will do better than creating SEO services like bots and crawlers, so I'll focus on those for now. Excited about building bots though.. Ill update more later. thanks again.

Best of luck, you probably don't want to hear this but it took me 2 years to make a serious dent. But when I did I never looked back. Keep at it, you will learn, improve and succeed

I agree, 2 months is nothing for the seo. I love the clients you get who do not understand it is cumulative or you can not just jam a handful of links into a submitter and rank a couple days later anymore. However, you absolutely are in the right place. There are some great people here who have selflessly shared their hard earned talent and experience. You can find some really great resources to drive the traffic you need as well as technique.

I am in similar boat, with some pressure. Moved across the country, putting my hosting company on auto-pilot for a 2 week job that took 4 years. The company was booming and was a disaster, loosing money hand over fist. 4 Years later, cleaned it up and one of the higher ups thought it looked easy and dogged me which has essentially left me semi homeless, hungry and screwed on the other side of the country without warning or safety net. So, it's back to where I began setting up a platform with various packages to keep the data-center 2000 miles away running. Should have never let the proprietary software sales go years ago. Even being in the biz for longer then I want to admit, have to say and give props to the people here that I have really learned exceptional things from and deserve only the best.

Ok, sorry for the emotional moment but seeing this post hit me in a weird way. I wish you the best of luck, as I am sure many people here do as well. I am 1 week into the project and still cataloging, spinning copy, coding and finding cool pictures. At times debating crowd funding lol. hopefully in a couple weeks will be able to contribute more.

There was a post a couple of weeks back that I found oddly helpful at the right time, search for linkcollider, Interesting resource.

I started building a non SEO service online a couple of weeks ago. Once I found BHW I got hooked but quickly realized that SEO niche sites, affiliate, etc would take too long to build. Instead I'm focusing on the service I'm building and found one more that I can build next. Fingers crossed and I start making sales this week.

We have more in common than you would believe. I was homeless for a while. Lived in my car for a long time, while going to school and working full time. It was a crazy time in my life. Even had to ask for money at gas stations a few times when I got stranded, shameful but I really needed it...Now I have little if any safety net, and my parents need my help.

But its the rock bottoms that make us the strongest. After recovering from rock bottom you lose the fear of failure, not that its completely gone but you know the consequences of failing aren't impossible to overcome, because you've done it before.

This is by no means a "Pitty party" but its always good to know were not alone in the struggle. I actually enjoy the struggle now, I get really board when everything starts getting easy.

Its the emotional posts that are the most honest. Posts about new found riches and crazy success are all over the place but people never share the rock bottoms or the true downs before the ups. Thanks for the post!

Thanks for the support, I've got plenty of other stuff going on in life, but this occupies all free time right now. Even rescheduled stuff so that I could spend most of today working on launching the first service.
 
At it again! Spent about 12 hours working on this stuff yesterday. Planing to spend another 8-12 hours again today. My plan was to start geting customers today but lets see how far I get, I'm near complete so its still possible. Of course the devil is in the details so we shall see how many speed bumps delay me today. I'm not automating things yet so customers will mean a lot of manual work. Automating things will take me a week or two to build out. I also found another possible service with less competition that I will build next.

I'll be online most of the day and hope to launch before bed tonight. Time to hustle.

  • A possible way to test ideas and get vouchers, unlikely but worth testing
  • Plenty of passion and dedication
