Not all of these methods fit every website. If you've got more to share, add the methods in comments, maybe I'll post another list with all of the suggestions from this thread.
1. Similar content links
Find blogs that publish stuff like “Best of the week”, “Monthly roundup”, “August best advices”. Make sure it’s related to your niche. Contact the blog owners, ask them to include your content to their lists.
How to: use the intitle tag to find blogs. Ex: intitle:roundup | intitle:best articles about XXXXX. Write an email with your request. (Not gonna give an example, you can find plenty of outreach email guides)
2. Resources page
Similar to the previous point, but instead of top articles, you need to look for lists of reliable (free, best, top) resources.
How to: inurl tag. This time we’re using inurl because resources pages are usually permanent, unlike roundups. Ex: inurl:resources beauty blog
3. Replacing broken links
Find links that don’t work, create content that can replace the one that was lost and contact the website owner with your proposition.
How to: find a suitable place (you can use previous 2 tips), find broken links, I use “Check My Links” chrome extension. Here I ran it on one of the “resources page” from previous screenshot:
Follow up with an email, smth like, hey, I found a bad link on your blog, and I have a content that can fill the gap. And etc.
4. Guest posts
Self-explanatory.
How to: google stuff like “write for us”, ugc and etc. use operators if necessary.
5. Paid publications
Also self-explanatory, but there’s a but.
If you decide to pay for having a post published, always state that you’re not going to pay for a post tagged as “sponsored”and other bullshit. Google reads that stuff and the value of your link drops.
6. Restoring the lost backlinks
Find backlinks that were removed, find the reason, take action.
How to: any backlink analysis tool – Ahrefs, Serpstat, Majestic, whatever you use. If you don't use any, Serpstat is the cheapest that I've found.
They all have "lost backlinks" feature, pay attention to those with higher authority scores. They also have authority scores or similar metrics. If yours doesn't you can always use Alexa or SimilarWeb to see if domain is any good.
Sometimes links get removed by accedent because website is moving from http to https or something similar, this is an easy case. Hard cases are when they just don’t want your link anymore.
7. Replace mentions with links
Track mentions of your website/brand with as many services as possible, so you don’t miss any.
Mention, google alerts, IFTTT, notify.ly and etc.
When you see your site mentioned without a link, contact and ask to add a link. Don’t be demanding!
8. Niche websites
Find websites in your niche that you do not compete with and contact them. Propose to write a guest post or exchange posts.
How to: use google. If you run a beauty blog, then other beauty blogs are your competitors, but websites about street fashion, not so much. Propose a post about how to match a make-up to your clothes. Use your brain.
9. Commenting on blogs
You should know what it means.
How to: google whatever you’re interested in and add “* comments” to your query. This way you will find places where you can definitely leave a comment. Ex: beauty blog “* comments”
Write lengthy comments, at least 100 words and use your link as a reference.
10. Commenting forums
How to: Similar to previous method but this time you can add the following operators to your search instead of “* comments” – inuil:forum and intitle:forum plus your query.
11. Top resources
Get a link from Forbes, Huffington Post and etc.
How to: There are 2 types of authors on such resources: Employees and Guest Authors. What you need to do is find these “guest authors” who are welcome to publish there and pay them to include a link to your website in their next post. Totally blackhat shit but it works. Won’t go into details on this one, you figure it out.
12. Local bloggers
This method is similar to finding niche sites similar to yours. So you’re looking for someone from location you’re interested in who is not your direct competitor.
How to: google. Your query + geodata, “LA beauty bloggers”. It’s possible to talk them into writing a post that you will promote on your social media or whatever, but it’s usually easier to just pay them, and local bloggers are often not as expensive.
13. Video
Record a video, post it everywhere, add link. Most of these will be nofollow, but they’re necessary.
If your budget is limited, make a presentation and record a screen with it. Add music and you’re done. Post it where yo ucan with a link. Here are some of the websites for starters:

14. Catalogs and listings
Have your link placed in all sorts of online yellow pages and etc.
How to: google. Search for location plus “add business” – Florida+“add business”, then explore your opportunities. Create a page for your “business” where you can and add a link to your website.
15. "Official" Organizations
Whatever your niche is, there will be organizations trying to apply some standards to it.
How to: Add words like international, organization, official, worldwide and etc to your query.
Apply for membership, see if you can become a member listed on their website.
16. Conferences and events
Participate, advertise, be a sponsor. These are expensive and hard ways.
Cheaper but still a hard way: Sponsor one speaker. There are always people who don’t represent anyone in particular, contact them, pay them, and they will tell the organizers to add link to your website in their bio.
17. Infographics
Self-explanatory. Create an infographic and offer it to someone. Editors love that stuff, it works waaaay better than articles.
18. Skyscraper method

19. Cold outreach
Also self-explanatory. Get a list of emails and start working on it.
Emails of bloggers and editors of course, not just random emails.
20. Your bio
you have accounts on different websites, add your link to your profile description.
Whenever you write a guest post, provide a bio ASL+link.
