Please tell me, How many domains did you redirect to your main url? is it from your related niche or another niche? What did you do with the pages from the expired domain? Redirected to main url or created similar pages in the new domain? What about the anchor text regarding the old domain...

I don't think so. In my experience, I had a huge drop in a established domain after buy a expired domain and redirect(301) to main domain.

Very interesting discussion. Personally, I got a huge rank drop after redirecting 301 from a premium domain that I've bought to my main domain. The dropp happens even the website redirect was from a related content niche.
