I've been trying to do some competition scans for a few thousand keyword and i keep getting blocked. I'm using hidemyass on a 1 minute IP rotate but i can only get through 10 before I'm blocked.
Any advise?

Depends on who you sell to. Many companies party hundreds of thousands for website development. Local businesses will usually be willing to spend a few especially if they are new to e commerce.

I always build me websites about 1000-1100 pixels wide. Enough for small netbooks to see. You can build dynamic width so it will change based one the users resolution but you have to make sure your content will still display properly throughout.
