if the language of expired domain is different than your new website??

Changing from English to Arabic should be fine, just check the domain's backlink quality and history first because those matter more than the language change alone.

Hi guys,
If I buy a good expired domain in the same niche as my project, but the old site was in English and I want to launch an Arabic website on it, will this have any negative effect on SEO?
Has anyone tested this? Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences.
Same niche is good. Switching from English to Arabic won’t get you banned, but it weakens the SEO boost from the old domain because most links and history are English.

It can still help a bit, just don’t expect the full power. Build good Arabic content and new links.

Cross-language domain redirects usually lose some backlink power, but starting a fresh site directly on it in Arabic isn't a problem. Just make sure you clean up or redirect old URL paths properly so you don't flood GSC with 404s.

Look at the link profile more than the language. Most RDs on an old English site sit on English pages with English anchors, so for Arabic queries they carry much less than the DR suggests. A hard content switch on a dropped domain also gets treated close to a new site, so same niche helps less than people expect.

Before buying, pull the referring pages and sort them by language. If most are English, keep the top linked URLs in English and put the Arabic versions next to them with hreflang instead of replacing everything. If the links are generic or mixed, you are mostly paying for age. Check Wayback for spam years in between too.
