How important is Technical SEO in 2026?

Hey BHW Gang,

I have seen many websites ranking without being their Technical SEO great. I am talking about Site Speed, SSR, Sitemap, Robots txt but still their site ranks well on google and in AI as well.

What are you opinion on a new website or a older of Technical SEO. Does it really worth it? What are your thoughts on this?

Yeah I agree technical SEO is important but I don’t think a site needs to be technically perfect to rank. If Google can crawl index and understand the site properly it can still rank even if some things aren’t perfect.

For a new site I would still sort out the basics from the start like site structure internal links indexing and mobile experience. For me technical SEO is more about making sure nothing technical is holding the site back rather than expecting it to rank just because the technical side is good.

What do you think about site speed do you think that really matters
 
I think all of the above still matters just like it used to
The most important part is the current competition to rank for a query
 
Very, since now you have the too's and capacith to fully automate it on a larger scale.
 
The speed stuff gets all the attention but the technical problems that actually hurt me were boring ones. Found the same article indexed at two different urls last week, and an old staging copy of the site sitting in google competing with the real one. No speed score would ever flag either.
 
Technical SEO still matters it doesn’t need to be perfect for a site to rank focus on making the site crawlable indexable fast enough and free of major technical issues rather than optimizing every small detail.
 
LLMs cannot process Javascript so it's pretty important. If the web goes full agentic then it will become very very very important
 
That’s an interesting point. Making important content accessible without relying entirely on JavaScript can improve how different systems understand and interact with a site.
 
I see technical SEO more as removing problems than a ranking trick. If the site is crawlable, indexable and usable i would rather spend the extra time on content and links
 
It's still important but i would 100% recommend you focus on good quality and unique content that provides new information to the visitors. Add here good backlinks and you should start ranking
 
Site speed remains very important; it's a valuable metric that few optimize, and although it's not something Google directly analyzes to rank your site, it strongly impacts user experience and greatly reduces bounce rate.
 
all factors still matter like before.but the level of competition around the query is probably one of the biggest things to consider when trying to rank
 
Valuable content and AI-search-friendly optimization are current trends.
 
I'd say Technical SEO is still very important 2026, But it's not the whole SEO Game.
Frome my experience, If a site has serious Technical issues-slow loading poor mobile experience.

speed testing help me with usability nd conversions, but crawlability nd indexing issues can ruin a website if not addressed, despite the excellent content.
 
you can check the actual search performance before fixing every technical warning. Not every issue reported by an SEO tool needs immediate attention.
 
A fast site helps, but good content and matching the search intent can matter more for many queries.
 
Technical SEO is still very important because even great content can struggle if search engines cannot properly crawl, render, or index the site. I usually focus on crawlability, indexing, site speed, mobile usability, redirects, and clean site architecture.
 
One of my websites, it was ranking well without anything technical because i didn't had time to fix everything.
Then it started gaining more visitors. So i gave it one full week now the traffic is more than triple. So Yes it is important.
but you can still get ranked without technical SEO, but for further profits you need it.
