I have heard someone say that, as much as comments you will have on your YouTube videos, the YouTube algorithm will more likely push your videos to more people and help you grow. Is that true? If there are creators here who have experimented with it, please let me know.

The reason it stands that you get more comments when your video is popular. You can't have a crap video with lots of fake comments go viral. Youtube reads and analyses every video partially now, since everything is auto subtitles.. They know better than anyone what the audience want. As they are serving it everyday, and with their algorithm changes. Make good content, let people enjoy it and interact and leave the comments they want to describe the video. Your job is to respond to comments, not care or add fake ones. Content creation is the name of the game.
It's not just about comments; each metric matters for the algorithm. So I would say you should focus on videos people actually watch, like, share, and comment on.

Hey, so yes comments is a strong factor for the algo to recognize that your videos are getting engagement, creators do a lot of things to get viewers to comment on their videos and we also know clients who basically bot their videos with comments, it does have an impact on your videos. However like everyone else has advised, do not forget that there are other factors like ctr and retention rates that determine whether your videos will get promoted further.

comments can help but i wouldn't say they directly equal more reach watch time and viewer satisfaction seem much more important

Partly correct. The number of comments does help increase recommendations, but it is not the most decisive factor.To grow the channel sustainably, focus on making videos that retain viewers for as long as possible, rather than just trying to find ways to drive comments.

getting genuine comments is definitely useful for building an audience but i would not chase comments just for the algorithm better to make people want to discuss the topic.

yeah, comment velocity right off the bat gets a lot of algorithmic attention, especially if u were responding and actually debating in the comments thread

Raw number of cmnts is vanity metrics unless there is actual engagement among them and people were not spending enough tym on the page.

I had watched videos that gets promoted even though they has very few comments despite having high watch tym meaning that comment number was not the sole determinant.

Yeah, but from a broader perspective, engagement becomes more logical. Time on page and repeat visitors should often be considered along with comments and likes.

Comments are always positive (even the ones from haters)
Meanwhile you are writing a comment the video is running and generating retention
And of course, you only spend your time leaving a comment if the video has some impact on you (positive or negatively). And that gives YT a lot of info of who to show your next video
And comments create community, create recursivity, create subs (if only as bookmark to come back to the video to see if there is a reply of your comment)
