The biggest time waster in my opinion is obsessing over website health scores in tools like SEMrush and Ahrefs. Don't get me wrong, I think they're fantastic platforms, and I actually like SEMrush's backlink audit tool for spotting potentially toxic links. But if your main goal is getting your website indexed and understood by Google, why not start with the tools Google provides?
Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and PageSpeed Insights all come directly from Google and show you how your site is performing from Google's perspective. They'll tell you about indexing issues, Core Web Vitals, crawl errors, search performance, and other problems that can directly impact your visibility.
I still use and recommend both Ahrefs and SEMrush every day, but when it comes to understanding what Google sees, or doesn't see, there's no better source than Google itself. Use third-party tools to supplement your strategy, but let Google's own data guide your decisions.
