LLM claoking; real Ai seo tactics or just an another muthy?

I've come across few posts where people claims they tested with LLM cloaking across 1k+ posts and pages, and saw noticeable increase in ai visibility, citation and mentioning afterwards.

If those result are accurate, I'm curious how much of increase actually came from claoking itself.

Has anyone know about this and is there anyone testing?

LLM cloaking is basically just traditional cloaking repackaged, where the server returns tailored entity data to AI crawlers while visitors see the normal page. Most tests showing citation spikes actually get results because the bot payload contains concise, structured answers, not because hiding the content adds any value. Since AI search platforms rely on live web retrieval and search indexes, serving split payloads just exposes your site to spam penalties and deindexing. You can get the exact same citation lift safely by placing clear takeaways and structured data directly on the public page.

It might show short term results in some tests, but it's risky and hard to know if the visibility came from the tactic itself. I'd focus on making the content easy for LLMs to understand and cite instead.

I’d be careful with the claims

AI visibility is definitely measurable but I haven’t seen strong evidence that cloaking itself is the reason for the lift

A proper split test with identical pages and only the AI facing version changed would tell much more
