imo word count is just a product of the proper discusion on the topic. I usually see what is ranking and try to fill some gap while writing enough to addres the search intent.

I have stopped focusing on a fixed word count. I first look at the current search results identify what other articles are missing and then build something more helpful. The final length simply depends on how much information the topic actually needs.

to be vry honest i am not trying to adhere for any specific word limit anymore. If the question is answered in 700 words then i will not change that. However if the same question requires 3,000 words then it is okay with me too.

I don't target a fixed word count write until the topic is fully covered without adding filler sometimes that's 1,000 words sometimes 3,000+. Search intent and content quality matter more than hitting a specific length.

1000 to 1500 words
The serp normally sets the general ball park although i does not replicate the average words count. For instance if the answer to the question takes 2500 words there may be room for 1200.

Nothing magical really, but I’ve had good result's from updating old content based on actual search intent and adding stronger internal links. Small improvement's across existing pages can add up nicely.

A good article is not about hitting a word count, but in most cases, around 1,000 to 1,500 words works well if the content fully answers the reader’s question.

I’ve noticed that sometimes shorter pieces just can’t pack in everything, but if I ramble too long folks just bounce. I peek at what’s ranking for my target keyword, get a feel for what gaps I can fill, then add real value without fluff. I sprinkle in clear headings and a killer intro so Google and readers stick around. Matching search intent in 2026 still seems to rule.

Find what the competition organically 1/2/3 are on their pages and what they are doing, model after then then improve it to where maybe you have 5-15% more text. They are in the top spot for some reason since the latest Google Update. My pages are longer than my posts. 750-1000 words articles for pages may be ok, 300-500 words for posts. This is ok for me and is working some with minimal editing for humanization on my local sites. Had to upgrade my hosting today so my thinking is I will be adding more websites.

I don't think word count is the deciding factor. I'd rather have 1,200 useful words that fully satisfy the search intent than 3,000 words padded with filler. The right length is whatever the topic actually needs.
