Hi everyone,

Most blogging advice focuses on publishing more content, but I am curious about the opposite side.

Have you ever removed old, low quality, or outdated articles from your blog and noticed any improvement in rankings, traffic, or overall site performance?

Or did deleting content make little or no difference?

I would be interested to hear your real experiences and whether content cleanup has ever been worth it for you.

Cleaning up thin content helped one of my site but only after improving the stronger pages first.

In my case, removing low quality pages did not make a big difference alone, but combined with improving remaining content, it did help overall site performance.

Content pruning was worth it when it improved overall content quality and site structure. not because Google rewards deleting pages by itself.
For me, updating or merging content usually gave me better results than outright deleting it.

I have found that removing or improving low quality and outdated content can make a positive difference, especially when those pages get little traffic and no longer serve users. That said, if a page still has potential, updating and improving it is usually a better choice than deleting it completely.

Yes but only when the content genuinely wasnt providing any value, Ive seen improvements after removing or consolidating thin, outdated or overlapping articles and redirecting them to stronger pages. In many cases updating and expanding existing content worked even better than deleting it.

For me the key isnt removing content for the sake of it, its making sure every indexed page has a clear purpose and offers value to users.

Yes I've seen positive results after removing or updating thin and outdated content. It didn't create an instant traffic boost but it helped improve overall site quality and made it easier for stronger pages to perform better.

I had better results by simply updating my weak articles instead of deleting them. I only remove content when its outdated and that works good enouggh for me.

yes, removing low quality content improves blog performance. when you delete thin or duplicate pages, google sees your website as more focused and higher quality. this can help improve the ranking of your other pages.

i am not sure if removing them affects the rank, but deleting them is a great decision. thin content can negatively affect your rankings or cause a penalty in the future, so just be safe.

Yes but only after reviewing the content carefully. Instead of deleting everything I kept the useful pages, updated them according to time and removed only the ones that had no value.

I did this on one of my smaller sites. Instead of deleting everything, i removed a few really thin pages and updated the ones that still had some value. Did not see an instant jump but over the next couple of months the site felt more stable and a few important pages started ranking better. I think quality matters more than just having more pages.

Yes, content cleanup worth for me because for improving blog's performance updates are mandatory. New points addition and removing old or useless points makes your blog informational according to the requirements of the readers.

Ofc however it was found that the most successful way to proced was through consolidation not deletion. Combining article that perform the same function into one comprehensive article prove to be more fruitful than just deleting them.

I removed thin outdated posts & either redirected them to stronger pages or improved them instead of just deleting, after cleanup crawl efficiency improved & rankings become more stable, if you just delete without redirects or a plan you usually won't see much benefit

everytime I tried just lead to worse results not gonna lie

In my experience, it can be helpful to tidy up thin or old content, especially if it improves the overall quality of the site. The trick is to make sure you are deleting stuff that really is not usefful anymore.

I did this once on one of my blogs and it was worth it most of the pages I removed were very thin and had not received any meaningful traffic for a long time after that I noticed Google was picking up my updated content more consistently I would still review each page carefully because sometimes improving an article is a better option than deleting it
