Pretty normal, especially on newer/low-authority sites. Google prioritizes what it finds valuable. Improve internal linking, avoid thin/duplicate pages, and get a few quality backlinks. If pages still don’t index, they’re likely not strong enough yet.

I’ve already verified the basics: robots.txt is clean, no unintended noindex tags, and the sitemap is properly submitted. Internal linking is something I’m actively improving to strengthen crawl paths, as you mentioned.

I’ll go ahead and request indexing via Search Console and keep a close eye on crawl stats to see how things progress.

If you’ve seen similar cases where Google still delays indexing despite these being in place, I’d be interested to hear what worked in your experience.

Yeah makes sense, site is still kinda new so authority probly low. I’ll work more on content quality, internal linking and try to get some quality backlinks.

Also gonna review weak pages and improve or merge them. Thanks for the input ...

Crawl activity is there but not very consistent, Google bot visits some pages more often than others. Still monitoring logs to understand it better.

Yeah, I’ve run into this kind of thing before and in most cases it’s not really a “ranking” problem, it’s more about Google not seeing the site as consistently worth crawling or not being able to crawl it efficiently.


First thing I’d check is whether the pages are actually being discovered properly in the first place. Internal linking matters a lot more than people think, especially for deeper pages. If some pages are only reachable through weak or isolated links, Google will often just deprioritize them.


I’d also take a close look at your sitemap and make sure it’s clean and only includes canonical, indexable URLs. I’ve seen cases where bloated or messy sitemaps slow things down because Google wastes time crawling low-value URLs.


Another common issue is server response or crawl efficiency. If the site is slow, inconsistent, or throwing occasional errors, Google will back off crawling certain sections. Same goes for things like heavy JS rendering or blocked resources.


And sometimes it really is just crawl budget on smaller or newer sites. In that case, the fix is usually consistency: keep publishing, strengthen internal linking, and get a few solid external links pointing to important pages so Google has a reason to come back more often.

Right now the site has around 15–20 articles, so content is still on the lower side. When I check with the site: operator, only a limited number of pages are actually indexed, which aligns with what we’ve been discussing.

I’m currently working on adding more quality content and improving overall site strength so indexing can improve gradually.

One more thing, are you using an expired domain or fresh one.

Totally normal for a new site—Google just hasn’t built enough trust yet. The quickest wins are improving internal linking (make sure every page is linked from an already indexed page), requesting indexing for key URLs in Google Search Console, and adding a couple of decent backlinks to help discovery. Also double-check your content isn’t too thin or repetitive. Keep your sitemap updated and give it a bit of time—once Google starts picking up signals, indexing usually improves on its own.

The site has around 25 articles, and Google shows about 18 pages indexed.

Also, it’s a fresh domain,

PBNs are still very effective for pushing rankings because they provide high authority and full control over anchor text. The key is making sure the network has clean footprints to avoid manual penalties. If done right, they can move the needle faster than almost any other link type.

18 number is "not that bad", there was a penalty called index only number 4 penalty, I can't decide if your website caught that or not.

Keep adding contents, and after say, you post 50-100 articles and your index number is still 18, or less than 18 after several months no matter what you do, then you are getting that penalty.

Check Google Search Console for indexing errors, sitemap issues, or noindex tags. Improve internal linking, optimize site speed, and resubmit updated URLs to speed up crawling.

If it's a new site, Give it time and keep building some basic backlinks to the orphaned pages.

Check your crawl stats and make sure there are no hidden technical issues like noindex tags or slow loading.

I experienced something like that recently.
Not so much a Google delay as poor internal linking + crawl priority.

Some of the following things made a difference:

• Linking those pages from other indexed pages
• Making minor updates to the pages’ content
• Verifying whether they are even receiving impressions on GSC or not

If you have poor crawl statistics in general, it’s possible that Google isn’t crawling your website often enough.

Out of curiosity, are those pages receiving any internal links whatsoever?

This is common. Add better internal links and improve page content. Check Search Console and request indexing. Avoid thin or duplicate pages.
