I have recently started a website and I don’t have any budget for ads, so I’m trying to grow it slowly on my own.

How can I get organic traffic without using paid ads, and what should I focus on as a beginner to start seeing some results?

if no budget, the best ways to get (still quality) traffic that I can think of are...

- forums
- UGC sites (Pinterest, Reddit, Quora, DeviantArt, Stackoverflow, Imgur, etc...)
- social media
- classified ads websites (OLX, Backpage... I don't think this one still exists, but you get the idea) ... these are useful for ecommerce mostly
- business directories (passive traffic but very little of it if you don't have money, otherwise they are usually worth the investment, but obviously that they are mostly suited for business websites, if you have a blog you can ignore them...)

I can't think of anything else, but these should be enough to get you started until you earn some money to look into paid advertising, SEO, etc...

SEO is your best bet long term. Start with keyword research, find low competition long-tail keywords in your niche and write content specifically targeting those. Google Search Console is free and essential, set it up from day one.
Short term, be active in relevant communities, forums, Reddit, Facebook groups. Not spamming links but actually contributing. People click through when you're genuinely helpful.
What's the site about? Easier to give specific advice with more context.

Make sure your content is useful and solves a problem. Google ranks content that helps users, not just content that exists.

Check the comment sections of popular posts in your niche. People are literally telling you what they want to see, but nobody is making content for it yet.

Pick one traffic source and stick to it. SEO or socials not both at start. Post a lot and target long tail stuff thats how you get first clicks.

Choose a single traffic channel to focus on first — it could be SEO or social media. Don't try to do both right away, as it will be difficult to optimize effectively. Maintain a consistent content posting schedule and prioritize long-tail keywords, as they are more competitive and will help you get your first traffic faster.

The key to getting organic traffic without paying lies in three things: valuable content, good SEO, and manual promotion, first, focus on specific long-tail keywords those phrases people search for when they already know what they want, create in depth guides that solve real problems, not generic articles, this way, you compete less, and the people who arrive already have a clear intention.

Then, don't just sit around waiting, share your content on forums like reddit, facebook groups, or linkedIn, participate by answering questions and link to your content when it adds value, without spamming, social signals and referral traffic help a lot, and most importantly, patience, you'll see little activity in the first few months, but if you keep publishing useful content, traffic will grow on its own like a snowball, quality organic traffic is the most sustainable and converts best in the long run.

Fairly early on, focus on content and consistency more than anything else. Pick a niche, target specific search queries (not broad ones), and publish useful content regularly. Going more specific gives you a better chance to rank and get initial traction, because it helps search engines understand what your content is about and who to show it to.
Personally, and others may have a different opinion on this, don’t rely purely on SEO at the start. Share your content where it’s relevant like in forums, communities, or social platforms just to get that early traffic down.
And yeah, it's gonna be slower without ads, but if you stay consistent and target the right topics, it compounds over time.

Focus on high-quality, SEO-optimized content (keywords, intent, and valuable information) to rank on search engines like Google Search and attract consistent traffic.

Focus on low-competition keywords, publish helpful and consistent content, optimize on-page SEO, and build a few natural backlinks organic traffic grows with time and consistency.

FOcus on targeting low-competition keywords, I've found that using tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush to identify keywords with a low Keyword Difficulty score and high search volume can be a game-changer. For example, I recently optimized a site for a keyword with a KD score of 24 and 1,300 searches per month, and within 6 weeks, the site was ranking in the top 3 and driving 50 organic visitors per day. Additionally, creating content that answers specific questions and provides actionable advice, such as listicles or tutorials, can help increase engagement and drive more conversions. By focusing on these types of keywords and content formats, I've seen organic traffic grow by 25% month-over-month on average.

Give priority to SEO and social platforms. It’s not instant, but the results build up over time.
