not only the age is important. that is just one factor of some. check the link matrix. good links = good domain. personally i would redirect all your penalty sites to your moneysite by 403 (permanent redirect). this trick helped me rank dead site again.just try it you have nothing to loose...

relax, i dont think that these spammy links will harm your site. did you lost any rankings meanwhile? sure, it is possible by negative seo, but you need more than just a bunch of nofollow links. cheers
