It works. Hardly any content is "orginal" per say. We all get our ideas from somewhere.

Podcast ads sound good, particularly in niche markets.

Use GeneratePress premium. Many site templates in their library.

All websites have spam links. Google ignores most of it anyway. And you should ignore that spam score metric. (its not from Google)

One or two links is fine. But if its a mass linking scheme expect to be penalized at some point.

The direct traffic alone from sites like quora and reddit and forums makes it worth doing. But yes it should provide at least some SEO value.
