One theory I've heard kicked around:
Google rolls out BERT update
New York Times gets hit hard
Google dials up domain ranking/backlink juice
Larger sites (and well hidden PBNs) reap the benefits.
Oh wow, I haven't seen Storify in nearly 2 years, so that list is at least that old. Unless you can make them relevant (like an eHow article for your hobby/market/niche/etc) I wouldn't waste my time.
Just a heads up - there are sites you can make powerful blogs that retain full domain authority - strikingly, joomla, fc2 to name a few.
Be wary of any that have been "blogspotted", meaning whenever you try to leverage their high authority by creating an account, your subdomain actually starts...
Huge tank on google since the beginning of the month and was thinking I fell victim to their November update. However, I think I've discovered a major technical issue. All of the schema, title, meta, and h1/h2 data are missing when I crawl with ahrefs, screaming frog, moz, and google's tools...

I currently have all of my most valuable content silo'd in child pages, with breadcrumbs in schema, but no breadcrumbs displayed on-page to create the link to the parent.
I have posts on the same site that seem to perform much better (with breadcrumbs on-page), and posts on similar low...

We're in a super niche market with very targeted traffic, and I've been able to form some very valuable partnerships...
