I read a very interesting post 2day about Content, Backlinks and how much time does it take to rank.

So, google really have those major outlines against spamming we all know about. Content is King and don't spam your website or you will get panelized! Well, think again

Bestproducts.com was launched 1 year ago. Now it has 271K backlinks from 1.93K domains. How, Sitewide links, thousands and thousands of sitewide links.

So, how did it work for google?
Great, they receive 3.8 Million visitor each month from 646,000 Keyword in USA alone :D

Here is a photo from last April, receiving 800K visitors within 6 months of the launch!

So, how did they do it?

Thanks to the company that owns website and owning many and many other brands. They sent thousands of backlinks in the footer and looks like google fall in love with it.

What is really astonishing according to their CEO, it took 6 weeks from agreeing on the idea in the meeting room to launching the website.

What about content?
Please take a look at the content on the website. 10 pics with 150 word description and an affiliate link

Anyway, we always knew that backlinks is everything. but, what is the real rule of content in SEO. here is another example

Content Importance in SEO

About.com made a new website in health niche (and everyone knows how competitive this niche is) and added 50,000 piece of content within two months. How much traffic did they get? NONE ! you can check ahrefs for verywell.com if you don't believe me

So, what did they decide to do? Yup, you guessed it right. Sitewide links from About.com

Yup, that is 60,000 backlinks in 3 weeks from same root domain. And the result ?

What is more terrifying is all big brands are doing the same. Let's take a look

So basically, at least 85% of the top ten results for any big money making term belongs to one of the brands their.

Both about.com and HEARST said their results with these websites was very promising and they will expand more to cover more Niches

What is your thoughts about this? Backlink Velocity, Content Importance, Spamming and Sitewide Links and the effects of this practice from big brands.

solid post but has been shared multiple times here already

I guess Hearst Media spend enough money on Google AdWords.

I believe all of them do. There must be some benefit to google

Does google have a stake in Hearst Media?

No idea, but Hearst isn't the only one doing this. All major companies do. The internet is turning into real world so fast where big gets bigger and small get smaller

This is how it goes with SEO nowadays. Big fish eating up the small fishes. I have not seen any blackhat tricks with SEO nowadays. It is almost zero from the way I look at it. Seems like Google has succeeded in getting rid of spams and blackhat fast rankers.

That's why you target small niches s

In the past they had huge big website for big terms like cnet. Now, they r turning into tagetting specific niches like verywell.com. With the amount of content they are posting ( tens of thousand ) it will be pretty hard to find small niches to target. At least this is what I think ! of course there will be always a lot of money to be made, but making $$$$ will be tons harder

Don't count on it:

Interesting, but seems Google know the websites all come from same big brand or at least got some hidden rules for them, we just cant do this.

I stated in the post, in the last 48 hours.

Hmm..interesting. I uses twitter to get article rank within 48 hours as well. But usually the ranking last only for 3 - 4 days before the traffic disappears and new contents need to be posted again. Is this a churn and burn site? I am using the twitter method for adsense monetization.

No. It is not a Churn and burn. It is a long term site. The site has no social signals. I do not use them.

Terry, I got into an argument with another poster who claimed to know it all. I told him then that he was long on reading and short on practice. None of the links to this site are from big sites, and the site is not a large site itself.

I built the links with GSA, as I have shown.

Rather than take as gospel what is written on this and other sites, you should take that information and use it to form the basis of your experimenting. If someone claims it cannot be done, then prove to yourself that it cannot be done. You might find that it can be done.

I believe there is a number for the domain ( w/e google uses to determine domain strength) when you get past it you are impenetrable. Like the bigger you get, the more backlinks you can send or receive.

I really have a problem believing google creating a list of domain name that can get off with spamming! It must be something in the crawler itself.

The experiment you made proves nothing. It's churn and burn experiment and you are targetting local keywords. Moreover, you aren't using sitewide links and the most important you will never get +1M traffic with that :)

Of course I loved it and thanks for the contribution. All I am saying they are not the same

The methods are pretty much identical. You are correct that I am not using sitewide links. I gave those up over two years ago, but not for ranking reasons. I also am not, for the most part targeting local keywords. The bottom two listings are business related, the others are national. The two with no ranking are what they are, but they do not rank. The best I have gotten for those two is position 99 and only for a few days. But then, I am not really targeting them.

As I stated, this is not churn and burn. The site is not virgin and has been around for about two years. The first year I did no more than index it with GSA SEO Indexer and run a bunch of redirects to it from GSA Redirect Pro. The second year I built the 4613 tier 1 links using GSA SER and allowing no link to have more than 10 outbound links. Most of those, however, are articles that are heavily spun and in five different languages; they were likewise indexed. About three days ago I began building tier 2 links. You have the results.

Believe as you will, but it is not a churn and burn site; it is my primary business website. From the experiments I have done I have enough faith that I use my methods on my business site. Think about that. I have done this to several other sites from as far back as four years, they still rank.

@JustUs : Great, thanks for sharing this.

Now we have to eliminate the time factor. You gave it one year before starting the campaign. How much content was in it? What is the domain authority, or Ahrefs Domain Rating was when you started the campaign?

Moreover, you are using translated content without any problem. another good tip

The translated content you need to be careful with! If you have a Japanese food site, it probably would not be a good idea to have a Russian translation though the other oriental languages and English would be fine.

I really could not tell you the domain authority or the Ahrefs rating. To me, those are distractions. The purpose is to rank. Ranking really has nothing to do with what anyone other than the Search Engines think. When I first started, those things mattered. Now they are useless for me. Other people may find them useful.

When I started the campaign, I had five pages in it. I spent a lot of time making it a silo site. Most of the content at that time had nothing at all to do with the business. Most had to do with various police and government abuses. However, the business silo's were in place content when the site was published. When I started the campaign a year later, I published three pages of business content and indexed it. Once Google and Bing showed the content, I began building the first tier. After indexing, I left the site alone. I did, however, begin campaigns for other sites in the same niche so that I could observe and track what effect different types of links would have.

Right now, there are about 17 pages of content. Each page has between 3,000 to 5,000 words and two to four pictures. The only link in all but one page points to the top of the business section. When I started the second tier, I wrote, actually spun a page from the wayback machine, and posted that. I linked this page out to two research articles on fertilizers.

Point being, that this was planned well in advance of execution, was based in experimentation and observation, and through the intelligent use of the effects of link building on other sites allowed me to determine how the SE's AI would look at links.
