Don't be stupid like me! (How I got hacked)

As per my knowledge no one can change the current number without phone verification. You must have been stupid to gave him the verification code as well, right?

o_O
I did not give him any verification codes. He just had access to my password and email and he managed to change phone, username, password, email

yes always activate the 2 time verification method as it prevents lot of people

what does that mean ? Our Credit card details are also unsecure ?
Those are mostly safe, because the (legit) sites don't receive credit card details from the payment processors, hence they don't have those in record at all, when a leak happens on a site where you made a purchase, your credit card details remain safe. Until the payment processor sites are secure, your credit card details are secure. What i meant when i said payment details is date of purchase, purchase id, purchase amount, this sort of data, these are stored on sites where you purchase stuff, but not the credit card details. Needles to say this kind of info still can be mad valuable for email marketers for instance, when they have a niche, email addresses, purchase dates and amounts belonging to each entry.

What country are you in? You have chat logs with this person - do they have an accent or anything?

Sorry to hear about that OP. But, because of your pain I've added the two-step authentication to my IG. Hopefully hackers like him have fewer targets now.

I'm in Australia although I believe the hacker was from the US or somewhere they speak Spanish because he started saying some stuff in Spanish at the end. He didn't sound like he had an accent, that's why I think he is from the US.

That's good, hopefully you won't have any problems like I did

If you go after him he might land in jail.

Just a few tips to add:

1. Use a password manager and never use the same password for anything. I like Keepass for that but LastPass is good too.

2. Turn on trusted location/IP settings if the site allows it. Most email and social networking sites have sort of setup for this. You will receive an email any time your account is accessed from a different country or from IPs different from your usual. This way even if the account gets compromised you will become aware of it sooner and will be able to minimize damage.

How about u go with those facts that ur passwords were leaked online and raise your chances of getting them back via the support team of IG. It's a shitty situation, I feel bad, been there before (other ways, but still lost my page to some stupid FB bug).

Damn this sucks. Brb gonna go change my own password first.

need to use the 2-step verification before I will be pawned..

but the convo thing between the 2 of you in skype is hilarious... that guy was dick
after that.. :(
