the collective memories

Just like we don't have collective penises and collective anuses, we don't have collective memories.
Just like we don't have collective penises and collective anuses, we don't have collective memories.
Great thread Skybug, the topic of cognitive dissonance and the reasons why propaganda work are interesting to look at after the US election.
In a world where everyone is constantly distracted, no-one has time to read in-depth explanations for information, and so everyone takes things on face value and adds that information to their existing world view.
It's all going very Orwell 1984!
Just like we don't have collective penises and collective anuses, we don't have collective memories.
Here are some very real scientific studies which certainly suggest there is a correlation of conscious thought that affect things around us. Here are a few:
The Global Consciousness Experiment/Random Number Generators
The global consciousness experiment is an international, multidisciplinary project between multiple scientists and engineers. It originates from Princeton University, in conjunction with the Institute of Noetic Sciences. It collects data constantly from a worldwide network of physical random number generators located all over the planet. The data is transmitted to a home base, which now has more than 15 years of data stored in it.
A few seconds in Google tells us that:
a) This project is not part of the Princeton university. The director of the project is a member of one of the Uni's departments and they're using the uni's hosting. Undoubtedly, they did a good job on hype.
b) They publish their methodology (good) which is full of mundane problems (bad). For example, not only there is no double-blind experimentation, there no "blind" period. I won't bother listing the rest for now.
So much for the very real scientific study. Forgive me for not being surprised.
Im not sure where you are getting your information.
You can see this on princetons own server.
And while there are skeptics to the experiment, it was infact conducted as a collaboration of 100 researchers from around the world.
Please re-read what I wrote carefully. The project lead is a member of a department in Princeton and the Uni simply hosts his site. That's the whole sum of the relation. Try finding somewhere on their page that the project is a Princeton U project - whoops.
You got that the wrong way. Science is about peer-review acceptance. Which this thing does not have. And by peers, we don't mean anybody with warm blood. So, the actual situation is "this is another quackery until proven right by process of ... you guessed it ... peer-reviewed acceptance".
I can't give any (good) explanation for situations raised in this thread, but this reminds me a couple years ago i've seen the tv news announcing Charles Bronson's death twice, at several months distance in time.It was the same news channel, same lady saying same words.First time i wasn't so interested, obviously..i mean, he was old, what would you expect him, to go to college?! But the second time I had this memory of the lady saying those exact words, it was so weird..
Anyway, in time I noticed the news guys, due to lack of real news, take a real story and add some old images they already have.By doing it only once in a while, they are covered. But I paid attention to it
So, it might be the way we get informations is a bit in disorder. We are under a flood of information and this might confuse our brains.Perhaps the technological boom has touched our evolutionary Achilles heel.We can't adapt so fast to receive this informational torrent, so our brains, instead of making it, are just faking it.
Anyway, Spock said (or will say..) well:
Fascinating..
I personally think this has a lot to do with "western media". coming from an international background (eastern european, germany, now in the US), i've spent several years in each country/area, i realized the media in america is completely uninformative and flawed and i think this plays a role in how people remember one thing but it was the other. mistakes in the media might have been corrected later, however, due to lack of technology back then, the mistakes were not highlighted to be "corrected" later on.
this does not apply to everything mentioned in this thread - just my opinion.

No, it wasn't deja vu, it was real, unfortunately no one else remembered the news from few months back, it was just me.I had some deja vu experiences, like any normal people (i hope it's normal lol) but the difference here is that in deja vu you only have flashes of memories, like one image or one sound aleady seen/heard.What i have seen was a one minute story repeated. It could be nothing, like i said i caught the news guys fabricating stories so this could be just a fake filler they used.So was your experience more of a deja vu experience? Or something else?
Also, like you I do believe information comes in limited format, so impression of information can certainly be configured after the fact, attempting to fill in the blanks off thee information being processed. But again, this seems it would only cover some instances that people report not including instances where vivid memories are recalled.
