Have you seen the tv show called "Man In The High Castle"?

Thats an interesting series, I believe based upon this guys "theories and statements".

Chris Evans recently tweeted than Marlon Brando should be in jail, yet Marlon Brando has been dead for 12 years.

Thats strange.

Just like we don't have collective penises and collective anuses, we don't have collective memories.

Have you heard of the 100th Monkey Effect? There is actually scientific research suggesting a collective mind. Check out this experiment.

First video describes the whole occurrence and the transfer of a custom across different geographies despite no-contact, its a pretty good full description of the observations. The end of the video gets really hippy lovey dovey you can skip the ending.

This second video has a short concise explanation of the 100th monkey effect. Doesnt explain full observations but gives a decent explanation of what the effect is.

Here are some very real scientific studies which certainly suggest there is a correlation of conscious thought that affect things around us. Here are a few:

The Global Consciousness Experiment/Random Number Generators

The global consciousness experiment is an international, multidisciplinary project between multiple scientists and engineers. It originates from Princeton University, in conjunction with the Institute of Noetic Sciences. It collects data constantly from a worldwide network of physical random number generators located all over the planet. The data is transmitted to a home base, which now has more than 15 years of data stored in it.

"Our purpose is to examine subtle correlations that may reflect the presence and activity of consciousness in the world. We hypothesize that there will be structure in what should be random data, associated with major global events that engage our minds..." (http://noosphere.princeton.edu/)

RNGs are systems created by Princeton researchers that are sensitive to and respond to the intentions of individuals, in other words, the influence of consciousness. They also respond to marked shifts in attention occurring in their environment. Peaks of order are commonly recorded during moments of shared attention and emotions. RNGs also responded, and had the largest effects ever recorded by the Global Consciousness Project during major world events, like 9/11.
Other large recordings have occurred on presidential inaugurations, tsunamis and the deaths of public figures. These findings stirred deep questions about the nature of consciousness and its connection to our physical material reality.

You can read more about RNGs http://www.collective-evolution.com/2013/09/05/mind-over-matter-princeton-russian-scientist-reveal-the-secrets-of-human-aura-intentions/

The Placebo Effect

It’s been well documented that we can change our biology simply by what we believe to be true. The placebo effect is defined as the measurable, observable, or felt improvement in health or behavior not attributable to a medication or invasive treatment that has been administered. It suggests that one can treat various ailments by using the mind to heal. Many studies have shown that the placebo effect (the power of consciousness) is real and highly effective.

A Baylor School of Medicine study, published in 2002 in the New England Journal of Medicine, looked at surgery for patients with severe and debilitating knee pain. Many surgeons know there is no placebo effect in surgery, or so most of them believe. The patients were divided into three groups. The surgeons shaved the damaged cartilage in the knee of one group. For the second group they flushed out the knee joint, removing all of the material believed to be causing inflammation. Both of these processes are the standard surgeries people go through who have severe arthritic knees. The third group received a “fake” surgery, the patients were only sedated and tricked that they actually had the knee surgery. For the patients not really receiving the surgery, the doctors made the incisions and splashed salt water on the knee as they would in normal surgery. They then sewed up the incisions like the real thing and the process was complete. All three groups went through the same rehab process, and the results were astonishing. The placebo group improved just as much as the other two groups who had surgery.

The Science of The Heart

The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field produced in the body. Researchers have analyzed the spectrum analysis of the magnetic field that’s produced by the heart, and results have shown that emotional information is encoded into this electromagnetic field. So, by shifting our emotions, we are changing the information that is encoded into these electromagnetic field that are radiated by the heart. This can impact those around us. When we are feeling emotions of compassion, love, gratitude and understanding, the heart beats out a very different message.

The Quantum Double Slit Experiment

The quantum double-slit experiment is a great example of how consciousness and our physical material world are intertwined. One potential revelation of this experience is that “the observer creates the reality.” A paper published in the peer-reviewed journal Physics Essays explains how this experiment has been used multiple times to explore the role of consciousness in shaping the nature of physical reality. In this experiment, a double-slit optical system was used to test the possible role of consciousness in the collapse of the quantum wave-function. The ratio of the interference pattern’s double-slit spectral power to its single-slit spectral power was predicted to decrease when attention was focused toward the double slit as compared to away from it. The study found that factors associated with consciousness significantly correlated in predicted ways with perturbations in the double-slit interference pattern. For visual demonstration of this experiment, see below:

What does this tell you? That our reality is not objective.

These are just a few of lots of such experiments. You have even some of the brightest minds in the tech world exploring these topics. Elon Musk even suggesting that we live in a Matrix.

Great thread Skybug, the topic of cognitive dissonance and the reasons why propaganda work are interesting to look at after the US election.

In a world where everyone is constantly distracted, no-one has time to read in-depth explanations for information, and so everyone takes things on face value and adds that information to their existing world view.

It's all going very Orwell 1984!

So you think this effect is caused by essentially marketing effects on our minds, distortion of information?

I find this video interesting.

I don't understand? Lol I'm into weird things too, but I think this is simply a case of rumors being spread and it getting around to the masses. Ideas being shared among a lot of people. Not any type of subconscious effect we have.

A few seconds in Google tells us that:

a) This project is not part of the Princeton university. The director of the project is a member of one of the Uni's departments and they're using the uni's hosting. Undoubtedly, they did a good job on hype.

b) They publish their methodology (good) which is full of mundane problems (bad). For example, not only there is no double-blind experimentation, there no "blind" period. I won't bother listing the rest for now.

So much for the very real scientific study. Forgive me for not being surprised.

Im not sure where you are getting your information.

You can see this on princetons own server.

Results http://noosphere.princeton.edu/results.html

And while there are skeptics to the experiment, it was infact conducted as a collaboration of 100 researchers from around the world.

"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_D._Nelson developed the project as an extrapolation of two decades of experiments from the controversial https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princeton_Engineering_Anomalies_Research_Lab (PEAR),.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Consciousness_Project#cite_note-NY_Times_2007-02-06-7

In an extension of the laboratory research utilizing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_random_number_generator called FieldREG, investigators examined the outputs of REGs in the field, before, during and after highly focused or coherent group events. The group events studied included psychotherapy sessions, theater presentations, religious rituals, sports competitions such as the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_World_Cup, and television broadcasts such as the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Awards.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Consciousness_Project#cite_note-8

FieldREG was extended to global dimensions in studies looking at data from 12 independent REGs in the US and Europe during a web-promoted "Gaiamind Meditation" in January 1997, and then again in September 1997 after the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Diana,_Princess_of_Wales. The project claimed the results suggested it would be worthwhile to build a permanent network of continuously-running REGs.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Consciousness_Project#cite_note-9[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:No_original_research#Primary.2C_secondary_and_tertiary_sources] This became the EGG project or Global Consciousness Project.

Comparing the GCP to PEAR, Nelson, referring to the "field" studies with REGs done by PEAR, said the GCP used "exactly the same procedure... applied on a broader scale." (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Consciousness_Project)

The essence of the criticism to this experiment revolves around thee inability for people to actually connect a "correlation" as a cause.

I can't give any (good) explanation for situations raised in this thread, but this reminds me a couple years ago i've seen the tv news announcing Charles Bronson's death twice, at several months distance in time.It was the same news chanel, same lady saying same words.First time i wasn't so interested, obviously..i mean, he was old, what would you expect him, to go to college?! But the second time I had this memory of the lady saying those exact words, it was so weird..
Anyway, in time I noticed the news guys, due to lack of real news, take a real story and add some old images they already have.By doing it only once in a while, they are covered. But I paid attention to it :)
So, it might be the way we get informations is a bit in disorder. We are under a flood of information and this might confuse our brains.Perhaps the technological boom has touched our evolutionary Achilles heel.We can't adapt so fast to receive this informational torrent, so our brains, instead of making it, are just faking it.
Anyway, Spock said (or will say..) well:
Fascinating..

Please re-read what I wrote carefully. The project lead is a member of a department in Princeton and the Uni simply hosts his site. That's the whole sum of the relation. Try finding somewhere on their page that the project is a Princeton U project - whoops.

And while there are skeptics to the experiment, it was infact conducted as a collaboration of 100 researchers from around the world.

You got that the wrong way. Science is about peer-review acceptance. Which this thing does not have. And by peers, we don't mean anybody with warm blood. So, the actual situation is "this is another quackery until proven right by process of ... you guessed it ... peer-reviewed acceptance".

As far as my understanding and it may of course be wrong, the "Skeptics such as Robert T. Carroll, Claus Larsen, and somme others have questioned the methodology of the Global Consciousness Project, particularly how the data are selected and interpreted, saying the data anomalies reported by the project are the result of "pattern matching" and selection bias which ultimately fail to support a belief in psi or global consciousness."

So essentially questioning not the actual results of the experiment, but questioning the causality of the results. But this has always been the case with studies that show correlation instead of exact causality. Finding correlations are often the first steps to understanding causality of things.

The project was an extension of the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Lab by Roger D Nelson, whom was also from 1980 to 2002, the research coordinator of the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) laboratory at Princeton University. The Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Lab (PEAR) primarily focused on and "employed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_random_number_generator (REGs) to explore the ability of test subjects to use psychokinesis to influence the random output distribution of these devices to conform to their pre-recorded intentions to produce higher numbers, lower numbers, or nominal baselines". (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princeton_Engineering_Anomalies_Research_Lab)

So was your experience more of a deja vu experience? Or something else?

Also, like you I do believe information comes in limited format, so impression of information can certainly be configured after the fact, attempting to fill in the blanks off thee information being processed. But again, this seems it would only cover some instances that people report not including instances where vivid memories are recalled.

I personally think this has a lot to do with "western media". coming from an international background (eastern european, germany, now in the US), i've spent several years in each country/area, i realized the media in america is completely uninformative and flawed and i think this plays a role in how people remember one thing but it was the other. mistakes in the media might have been corrected later, however, due to lack of technology back then, the mistakes were not highlighted to be "corrected" later on.

this does not apply to everything mentioned in this thread - just my opinion.

The media is just as uninformative in eastern europe and western europe as its in the USA. There are only a handful of reliable news companies in the world and even then you still have to cycle through a bunch of those good ones to find what is actually going on.

For example every time there is a "Happening" RT,Sputnik,BBC,Daily Mail, and Fox News have to be cycled though.

The Mandela Effect is a psychological operation created by the U.S government made to discredit ACTUAL conspiracy research.

It is a turd in the punchbowl created by the pentagon. Complete B.S

I visit two forums daily, this and ATS. This forum makes me money whilst ATS is largely a fun distraction...

So anywho most of this is old hat (don't hate on the pun lol) to me. You'd be better doing searches over there.

Memories have been shown to be pliable and if anybody has seen "Black Mirror", there's an excellent episode with Tony Kebbell around this.

As to the Mandela Effect, I think most of it is people remembering fading memories incorrectly.

However, the few that get me are:

Queen: "We are the Champions"

C3PO has a silver leg?

"Magic Mirror on the Wall"

"ET. Home Phone"

It's interesting for sure...

Ok, so I skimmed through a lot of Mandela Effects examples to find one I had 100% certainty....I found it and now my brain hurts.

I think this is so iconic that there are people here who share it.

"
James Bond fans out there ..the movie moonraker ....the villain jaws ...famous scene where he and dolly fall in love

He smiles at her with a mouth full of metal . She smiles back with a mouth full of braces . Classic music playing .famous scene ....well not anymore ...she apparently never had braces ...which made the scene . It doesn't even make sense now ..there is no explanation for this ...no misquote ..no mistranslation ..no visual memory...the scene was made for that specific point ...wtf?!"

No, it wasn't deja vu, it was real, unfortunately no one else remembered the news from few months back, it was just me.I had some deja vu experiences, like any normal people (i hope it's normal lol) but the difference here is that in deja vu you only have flashes of memories, like one image or one sound aleady seen/heard.What i have seen was a one minute story repeated. It could be nothing, like i said i caught the news guys fabricating stories so this could be just a fake filler they used.
