It might be time travelers, fucking with time, the mandela effect is a symptom of the butterfly effect.

I believe it relates to something called anchoring - I read this in a book called thinking fast and slow.

Anchoring is where our minds are pulled towards the most current information that we have.

In this book there was an experiment given as an example where a number of people were asked how old elvis was when he died (Or someone like that). Before they answered they had to spin a wheel that would stop on a random number. Actually the wheel was rigged and half of the respondents were shown a higher number, and the majority of those people guessed a higher age of death- due to anchoring and the brain using that number as a base to start from, albeit subconsciously.

I think with the example in this post it's something similar - for me I had it in my mind that stain is the term for a mark / spillage / mess but beren as well as the two combined words seemed more unusual, a word I had not heard and thus possibly a foreign word or a Latin word or the name of a classical song or something thus it seemed more likely that stein would go with the first word. So once again the subconscious is anchored towards the first spelling because of those known associations.

Thats a really interesting theory on it and might explain some of the memories, but I would think anchoring would apply to instances where people see something or are asked a question that do not recall information or facts that have vivid memories associated with them, instead being more related to instances where someone has to "guess" at the answer or information.

Many people, including myself, seem to recall very specific memories of things in details. If it was an anchoring effect, then some how the mandela effect would include some sort of mass delusion. The question would then arise, what causes this mass delusion affecting the memories of millions of people on very specific things?

There is something to this manadela effect, and I have been contemplating how this effect or even "anchoring" could be used for marketing purposes.

I agree with you about how thinking outside of the box on all matters is key to success not just in IM but life in general. As i mentioned above, there is something to this mandela effect, Im not quite sure yet what it is, but there is no way millions of people share vivid, collective memories that are false and can easily be dismissed as cognitive dissonance. I have looked at a lot of theories attempting to debunk it, but usually those theories work well for small groups of individuals, but not people en-masse into the millions.

Perhaps it is an experiment being conducted.

Time travel could be an explanation, but that seems so far out there for many. But then you see stuff like this:

Another theory suggests we are all actually in a computer simulation (e.g. The Matrix) and a small glitch has occurred, changing one letter from an "E" to an "A" as in the stein vs stain, but somehow not affecting anyone's original memories. Aand who really wants to be a computer simulation in the first place. No one would ever choose this as an answer.

As some commenters here stated, perhaps everyone, including myself, is suffering simultaneously from a mass delusion on a global scale. But the question to this is why and what has caused this. @David355 suggested is it an anchoring effect? Then why do people have lucid memories of events?

Maybe we are under some type of marketing experiment.

For me and you obviously, discussions like this open our minds up and we seek answers, explanations and solutions to things like the mandela effect.

Then there is the fact that we never truly see anything as it is, because our senses are limited, such as not being able to see small enough, uv light, infrared, etc. That we only see a representation of what is out there in a shared reality because of similar programming and projection of a type of hologram in our brain is that we actually "see"

The matrix is not that out there of a theory and we will soon be able to possibly program a similar project as virtual reality gets more advanced, so who says it hasnt already happened in the past. In fact we are only maybe 100 years away or less according to Moores law which has been accurate for decades.

Look at ancient Indian texts like the Mahabharata which describe nuclear weapons to the tee and flying craft. Imagination from several 1000's of years ago with no inspiration from movies and such? Highly unlikely!
And time travel is likely possible today and even mentioned in ancient scripts and even the Bible

I personally think this has a lot to do with "western media". coming from an international background (eastern european, germany, now in the US), i've spent several years in each country/area, i realized the media in america is completely uninformative and flawed and i think this plays a role in how people remember one thing but it was the other. mistakes in the media might have been corrected later, however, due to lack of technology back then, the mistakes were not highlighted to be "corrected" later on.

Wow!!! Im sure not to many people will get or understand all of the references in this, or even watch the whole thing. But I watched the whole video and my mind is definitely blown at the extent of the comparisons. There were a few things that really stuck out to me, probably because of my culture here in the US, but I am totally astounded how the simpsons solved the Higgs Boson theory (The God Particle) 14 years before it was discovered. Insane!

After watching this, it makes me think even more about things like the simpsons prediction of Trumps presidential run, etc.
