No matter how smart search algorithms are, backlinks yet remain the important criterion for site ranking. Agree?

Have done quite a lot of work with keyword research and other search engine optimization factors but still having troubles with ranking high on Google, check the list of the most popular ways to get backlinks and pick some techniques for your strategy.

There are two main types of backlinks:

Natural. You can get these links free, but the time to accumulate sufficient referential mass can take quite a while.

Artificial. You need to pay to get a backlink pointing to your site. Time spending in this case is minimal.

So, here are the ways to get backlinks:

Niche Directories. They can be both free and paid. You can find a number of sites where you can register, make a unique description and leave a backlink to a promoted resource. An example of directories for Startups

Press releases. On some sites you can send a press release, and it will have a good chance to appear on the top sites. Such services have both paid and free ways of posting.

Submit videos and infographics. There are also directories for video and infographics where you can post, for example, guidelines or surveys, reviews.

Social bookmarking sites. You can promote your content on such sites as reddit, stumbleupon, tumblr, pinterest and niche specific ones through social bookmarks. Here is the list of some.

Comments. This strategy still works in the case if you write useful comments with a link to your resource. To get the most value, comment on relevant blogs, ******** blogs (blogs that offer followed links to their commenters). Pay your attention to blogs that have the CommentLuv plugin installed. It will help your to promote your posts.

Links exchanges. Links exchange services are intermediaries between site owners and sellers in the case of selling or buying links. Exchanges are usually used to promote sites or to earn by selling links. Links’ cost is usually determined by Domain Authority, number of outgoing links, domain and trust level, age, presence in the catalogs of search engines. The most popular exchanges are LinksManagement, TextLinkBrokers.com, Textlinks, PostLinks, Text-Link-Ads.com.

Socialization. Search engines take into account the social signals to the site. This should be used not only for improving the search position, but also to expand the audience. At least you should use such social networks as Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Youtube (not exactly a social network, but still very important). For getting social site links huskies-attracting content is needed. Social networking sites to consider.

Case Studies and Testimonials. Every one likes reading remarkable case studies, they draw attention and interest.

Guest Posting. It is about writing a piece of content and publishing it on sites that offer guest posting. The benefit of getting links form guest posting is they are supposed to be of high quality and they will help you rank higher and increase your domain authority. Here is the list of some resources.

Paid Reviews. If you've got a product or service you want reviewed on a blog, you can pay for one. By using sites like sponsoredreviews.com, ReviewMe.com, and PayperPost.com, you can pay for blogger reviews. Of course, they'll link to you in the review. Some resources offer reciprocal exchange of reviews. They write a review for you and you write a review for them.

And what strategies of linkbuilding do you personally use? If you have your own secrets to share, feel free to comment and discuss the effectiveness.

Thanks for sharing this valuable post.

Another obvious link building strategy can be seen from this thread. Go to forum, build credibility and post useful information to the forumers while linking back to your website. It's a win-win situation.

Could you please explain to me the exact meaning of backlinks and why is it so important for google ranking ?

Thanks for sharing this! For sure this the way to go about link building. However, as we all know one of the major hurdle in SEO today is solely getting backlinks but also to make sure Google index those links. Pretty much everyone can make backlinks to their site(s) nowadays with the incredible amount of information on link building like the one OP presented here. But not every link get indexed. So how to get indexed. One strategy that is working well for me is to create a web 2.0 site on which I immediately place the links that I want Google to index. Google will crawl crawl the web 2.0 and my links will get indexed. Once I verify that my links are indexed, I remove them and so one. Please criticize this method and its long term viability

You are quite right, Mate;)

In simple words backlinks are those links that go to your site from other websites, they point back to
your web page. Each time a site opts to link to your page, it is signaling that it finds such sites worthy
of sharing with its readers. Ranking high on Google obviously means getting more traffic to your website.
Backlinks serve as a metric for Google to determine the popularity of a given web page.
When a search engine spider gets a site that has other websites pointing to it, the conclusion
is that the referred to sites have quality information and thus are rewarded with high rankings.

The thing I don't get is why do you remove links? You get a link and its weight, but when you remove it
you loose it. It doesn't point to your site anymore. Just a slight correction - links are not indexed, pages
are indexed.

Excellent post. I also follow some of these methods to build backlink profile of my websites.

Great Summary! Coveyed the necessary info in a nut shell.

I have recently witnessed that Videos and Infographics with a strong story board is an impressive backlink. People love to know facts and info within minutes than read about the same for hours! What's your thoughts about this @LinkBuildingServices ?

You are quite right, Mate. It can also be considered an effective strategy of linkbuilding. It is gaining in popularity more and more.
It deals with people's perception of information. Visual content is considered to be easier to perceive, that's why people like it more.
I am myself a visual learner. If I have an opportunity to watch a video and not to read a text, I usually do it.
But it's not gospel truth on its own. My colleague, for instance, prefers reading an article to watching a video.
The best choice is to have a video and its transcription, like it is done on Moz with Whiteboard Friday section in a Blog. I like them very much.
