Do You Want Fries With That?

Yes I fucking do.

You're about to learn how a beautiful phrase can and will increase your sales. Let's get down to it.

A catering company hired me on to improve their sales. Simple enough, except their current email blasts were confusing the shit out of people. They forgot that people are like babies; we need to be told exactly what we want or our brains implode from too much info & we end up crying ourselves to sleep.

An example of their existing email went something like this:

"Good morning!
I'm from _________ here in _________ and noticed you have a conference booked at _______.
We're happy to offer you our catering services. Please let us know what you like and blah blah I'm bored as fuck thanks for that."

First off, where's the connection? No mention of their name. Just a mention of "catering services" which couldn't be more vague and uninteresting. FAIL.

I hopped in and ditched the email entirely. Got started on a call script that uses a simple technique I'll explain later. Calling doesn't have to suck because you can tell the effectiveness right away.

"Good morning ________!
My name is ________ from __________. I'm calling as a reminder of your conference at _______ on _________. To make this even better, we are happy to cater your event as well. I'll send you a quick email with more info. Would you like coffee to start?"

Who doesn't like to make shit better? I'm starting off personal, doing them a favor (reminding them) and improving their event with food. A quick email that I don't ask for permission to send. Cap it off with the opener "Would you like insert something specific here" and I'll tell you why.

We call it Suggestive Selling. This script works because I'm NOT asking them to tell me what they want. Would a nail salon ask you if you want their nail services? NO. They'll ask if you want to add shellac to your color. They're suggesting something for you; doing the thinking (work) for you.

Pay attention to existing, successful companies and how they approach you. What effect it has on you (it can feel so natural that you forget you're being sold something.) That is how effective this simple change of phrase is.

This script closed 94% of their prospects. And when 100+ prospects spend $250+(I've seen one order go for $4000) on food and beverage, you can charge $5000 knowing you're bringing them 5x what they pay you.

That's 100% true. Be simple, caring and polite to the costumers is a very important thing. As said treat your costumers like BABIES... Loved the post man
Using a friendly language works a whole lot better than talking like a robot.

Thanks for sharing! I'd like to point out a common mistake which is taking first two paragraphs to talk about how great we are. Instead, it's better to highlight the good things they're already doing, then offer ourselves to make them greater.

You're all welcome :)

They had a staff member that studied literature and they didn't agree with my wording and emotion behind it. Turns out the real world doesn't care about the rules of writing. We're not writing novels here people; we're selling shit.

Nice post it's definitely these small things that make it or break it when it comes to seo.

Suggestive selling, a time honored sales technique that works 9 times out of 10 as long as your product/service speaks for itself. Good for you for spreading this to BHW, some members just need the positive push.

Glen Glary Glen Ross.... It should be mandatory watch for anyone in sales. ABC

Good post but how do you know what they ask at a nail salon?

The thought came to me after treating my lady to the salon/spa the other weekend. I sat in the massage chair next to her and payed attention to how they spoke.

For real tho I look fabulous in road house blue -sparkles-

Put. The coffee. Down.

More aggressive, old school approach than what many would say works these days, but it definitely has its place.

the few change of words does the trick and I believe you will have an incredible career.
