How to check expired domain for Google penalties?

Hi mates! I have a new domain, and I want to know, how i could check it for penalties in Google.

I see so many many domains floating on domain auction
99% of domains are spammy or bizarre unrecognizable shit
I got so tired, so I just trash anything not indexed by G thesedays

If it shows up, type domainhere.com. If the site doesn't show as #1, it has a penalty.

If not, it could just be deindexed because of not being picked up for a while. Check the history of the site on archive.org for any spammy looking changes (chinese, russian, dodgey niche like viagra, complete niche changes, redirects etc.).
Look in majestic / ahrefs / Moz for unrelated, spammy or asian/russian backlinks/anchor text.

always better to aim for new domain. If you found some "sexy" domain at auction there might be something fishy behind. I gave up wasting time at auctions - more and more crap, less and less "good catch" since 2009.

yes, absolutely. But it will take time to dig it and good one are not less than $100 plus time and very careful study. Think: why should someone drop good "fat" domain suddenly? Maybe better to consider new one + articles + good backlinks instead? For $100 you can make a sure deal, than something else.

Google already knows too much and you don't want to feed it excessive information.
However, it is backward - I thought we check domain before we buy, not after ... Isn't?

What extra info are you feeding google by adding it to WMT?

Google already knows everything without you adding it to WMT.

The only way to know if the domain is penalized before you buy is checking its links profile + way back.

as about WMT or so-called "console". It is not SEO-myth, it is well-known fact how ranking (not "Page Rank") assessment works in Google Inc.
I don't see the importance of Webmasters Tools, I don't see anything useful from of that you cannot get yourself using open source software and 15 grams of brains.
And, besides, this is not Google-lovers-forum.com, this is freaking Black Hat World. feel the difference?

I don't know why any members here shouldn't use WMT, i use it all the time, for tracking my SERP CTR and potential keywords that i can target.

For big keywords, an increase in a few % of CTR can make a real difference in term of traffic.

Moreover, well i love Google, it is the only reliable, free and stable source of high quality traffic that can convert like crazy.

who doesn't? besides, whats the point arguing - we only exchange ideas based on experience. Each one has its own, hence its called "forum".
Search Engine named Google is a tricky bitch, but it brings golden eggs. I haven't seen higher ROI than pimping it. Nothing even close.

Kind of bringing old topic, but still - this is utter bullcraps. There is only one way to be sure that domain is not manually penalized by Google and that is WMT. No tool or "website" can tell you that with 100% guarantee, nor your "15 grams of brain" simply because you are working with insufficient information. And for algorithm penalty there is no way to find out not in WMT, not with any other tool, but only with "hmm this should be ranking higher". Nothing more.
