Incredibly low adsense CTR

On my blog I get about 500 to 1000 unique visits a day.
I have the maximum of 3 (my guess is 300x300px) ads on the left side of my site
But I only get about 1 click, and often none.

What could I do to improve my CTR?

Mobile is taking over. Make sure you have those full page ads javascript add-on on all your pages.

For desktop, ad positioning and targetted traffic are the main drivers of CTR.

just take responsive ad code from google and put it on content. 1st on after first paragraph, 2nd one in middle and 3rd one before last paragraph.
You will get atleast 30 to 50 clicks per day

Tried to enable them but their test button doesn't work, don't know why. Not sure if it works now or not, will see it in my earnings

General clickbait blog, I spread my (self written) articles on the appropriate facebook groups
