I found a method of making money online by buying expired domains and getting the benefits of having that domain's backlinks and traffic. Just one question, are the domains from the bargain bin worth working on? Because I want to try this method on a low budget.

I found this one domain that is worth $5 with domain and page authority of 5. It also has a few organic traffic (less than 100 - which I think is better than what my current blog is getting now XD)

What the metrics of the exspired domain you have found .

There a complete method in buying domains and it a real huge subject and involves loads of metrics and wayback info , knowing the real value of a domain , also your need to understand how to delete bad backlinks that are already hanging off the domain.

What the metrics of the domain?

What the backlinks like spammy or good strong
stats.

What niche are the backlinks in.

Wayback , what was the domain website last used for.

Is there any comments about spam in Google and any bad reviews pointing to that domain name.

If all the above ok and the metrics are good grab that domain .....

If there any xxx domains hanging from the backlinks , you might have a spammy domain unless your a adult website your self.

Please read this to understand domain metrics

Domain authority score and
Domain trust score
Are the most important values but the other values still can help in valuing a domain name.

Oh. I thought it's simpler than that. Thank you so much for your reply. I considered the niche first - it's about herbal products and I thought I could use it for affiliates and display ads. I checked the archive and the website seemed to be a physical business establishment with their business name as the domain. I just did it now and I think I should look further.

How do I check where their backlinks are coming from?

Also, good pointers about bad reviews on Google.

To check for backlinks sign up for the free accounts on majestic and ahrefs. the free views are veru limited and you only get to view a few times a day.

thefull versions of these are very expensive to buy and not realistic fora blogger making no money (they want silly money every month)
you can join a group buy on facebook and get these and more for about $15-$20 a month, its up to your personal morals
if you see this as being right or wrong lol, though I doubt its illegal.

As far as buying\selling domains. the big boys have it all neatly wrapped up. Anything half decent is snapped up by dropcatching sites\software.

Expired and deleted domains have been thoroughly checked for value before most people even know they are going to come on the market.
It cost me £800 to find that out :)

Unless you have 000's to invest and really know the art of domaining I would steer clear of trying to make money from it.

Of course we little people can get the odd "bargain" here and there but you will prob have to use the site for years and build super backlinks to make it worth anything worthwhile.

:O ok , that's basically telling me that it's not for me yet :D That's good to know though. I probably should just keep doing what I'm doing here (I do drop-shipping and a little blogging) and look back to buy and sell later :D Thanks!

Sorry if sounded bossy. domaining is one of the few areas I know a lot about. I spent a year studying day\night to make it work.
it can work but to make a living you need great contacts with the top guys, a big bag of cash, a gamblers instinct, luck, privately made custom software
and a lot of knowledge.
Not only that I found a very high percentage of the top domainers very unlikeable, they are treated like rock stars and have egos to go with it.
Its the same attitude pokers players have, not attractive a tall (to me anyway)

You may of hit a nerve here lolz

No, no, not bossy at all it's just I never expected it to be that way in real life. All the blogs I read about site flipping and buy and sell made it sound easy. Good to know the real work needed behind it. :)

Well, as what the others have said, as long as the domains still have traffic and a few people linking to it, it can serve as really valuable if you create a website. Once you create a website, it will be easier to rank for because it has already established authority.
