Made My First Dollar on IG - Did my customer get value?

You did fine.

There's no guarantee that anyone is going to follow you just because someone gave you a shoutout. That's the risk you take when you advertise. A shoutout is an advertisement, and you are not promised conversions just because you put up an ad. Your customer should be happy he got any followers at all. Even if it was just 1-3.

Your job was to give the shoutout. You did that, and now your job is done. You provided value by giving the customer access to your followers. Whether or not the customer received followers, likes, value, etc. depends on the value of HIS page. If no one liked or commented on the shoutout, and they didn't follow his page, then HIS content was not relevant to your followers.

Make sure the page you shoutout is something similar to your page. If your page is about men's suits, then you should only shoutout pages that are about men's ties, men's dress shoes, and whatever else goes with the outfit. If someone asks you to shoutout their dog page, go ahead and deny that one because people are not following you to look at dogs.

$5 for 1-3 followers is definitely not worth of value. It's roughly $10-15 per 1000 likes depending on niche.

That's not enough people to get followers. I'm surprised the customer even got 1-3 followers.

I have 5K followers, I charged $5 for a 6 hour picture post. I photo will probably receive 120-200 likes and 1-2 organic comments.

If my customer only get 1-3 followers from my shoutout, did he get value? Or is the photo exposure good enough and my customer gaining followers just a bonus?

As I continue this journey, I'm not sure what my customers will be expecting.

I'm not sure if I've failed him or if he got good value.

If the guy wasnt willing to take risks, he wouldn't run any company. 5 dollars is nothing. People spend 5 dollars on stupid stuff every day. He had to give it a try to find out whether it works for him or not. A 5 dollar idea that might make a big difference for him. Its not like he buys them from you on a daily basis. You get what you pay for. Cheap things ain't good, good things ain't cheap. He probably knew what he'll be getting when he paid you to do a shoutout and if he doesn't, then he's not doing things right. You didn't do anything wrong nor did you overcharge him. Cheers.

What's the problem,you did not lie to him,he knew how many followers you had.
If his goal was to test something,that's good,he did it and should be happy
if he wanted to get tons of followers from a 5 dollar shoutout and 5k account,he understood that IM does not work that way and gained an experience with that 5 dollars
I would understand your reaction if he spended somewhere 50 or 100 $

He was slippery slopping.

Anyway, this isn't a question of morality, IMO. $5 for 300 likes isn't outrageous, and he has absolutely no control over how many followers his customer may get. Everything is out in the open, there was no deception or scamming involved. He may feel pity for his customer, but shootouts are a huge gamble, and not one he should feel guilty for.

Yes very good point. My angle was mostly making sure the customer doesn't run away because I'm not giving enough value without realizing.
