Well....Google just announced at SMX that the 3-pack is going to start containing an ad soon. So instead of the 3-pack it's going to be 1-ad + 2 organic listings.
Yes, the ones right on Google search (not the expanded pack). Be prepared to try to get clients in the top 2 instead of the top 3!

CTR % for organic ranking is decreasing more and more with google getting greedy

What do you guys think about that?

Here is the article: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-local-pack-to-get-adwords-ads-22275.html

Google might be getting greedy!

I have been placing the ads in the expanded Google Places using the "Location" extension.

I think the same procedure for these non-expanded Google Places ads!

Do you think the ads above the Google places (I mean the traditional ads) might be removed now after adding this feature?

I see this as a positive step. If people are searching for a phrase which triggers a local pack then they already have a very good idea of what they want to buy.
On that point they will skip the generic adds and go straight to the pack to interrogate the (local) results/prices.

In my niche the vast majority of the local competition have not got to grips with adwords so it would be easy pickings. Where currently I have to compete with the likes of Expedia for example their ad belongs and will be in the traditional adwords section. It would not qualify for the pack as it is not a local business.

Google always were going to moneytize that pack it was just a question of when. We are now at the when but approached from the right direction it offers a great opportunity......

Last year and for the previous 18 Months I had multiple kw positions right at the top of the pack 15+ high value kw, my phone never stopped ringing. Do not underestimate the value of that no1 spot, it is priceless. I would pay to get in it.
