Lately I have been thinking of a forum to create, and I have a perfect niche that have not been used. im just thinking if there is any money in owning forum, or if i should just create a blog around this niche?
The reason im thinking of a forum is because, other people will help me create content.

With a forum you need traffic to populate it to get content, with a blog you can fill it with content yourself in no time. I would definitely say it's easier to monetize a blog than a forum.

Forums are a lot of work and TBH if the niche is large then there probably is one already covering it, otherwise people are possibly using Facebook Groups, or another Social Network to congregate.

Well it is a niche that just started to explode, and there is not many blogs and only 2 big forums with the niche. i figure it would be a pefect thing to monetize.

Well really i dont care about how much work the forum is, because the niche is my passion.

If you are passionate about it then go for it, it will be a little easier if you enjoy it. Good Luck

Does your forum make money for others? Literally will people who use your forum make instant cash from it? If not, then you have a lot of marketing and work ahead of you to do.

what do you mean by, if other people could make money from the forum? how does that effect me?

It seems to me that Google like webpages build on Wordpress, Joomla and so on much more tha nforums. So far I have not seen many forum Threads ranking near close to what for instant a wordpress website does for a given keyword.

Hope someone can prove me wrong.. but as I said so far I have not seen it.

Yeah i also haven't seen many forum threads ranking that good as a wordpress website.

Ok i think i have an idea, I will create a blog and a forum. i have plenty of time to do everything.
infact i just finished school, and convinced my parents to let me make money on the internet instead of job. Because its 2016, you dont need a job to make money. So this means that i have 7-9 hours on the computer a day. If any of you think there is a better way to make money than this, then tell me.

Just be prepared of hard work and you need money to make money!

BHW breaks the internet in ranking over WP sites for a bazillion KWs.

Active forum, plenty of backlinks etc and you will rank over WP sites 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

Sure, a dinky forum is not going to get that love from Google but a forum that has those elements is going to get some attention from the algorithm.

i agree with BassTrackerBoats, i constantly see BHW at the top or near the top of search results, so ranking isn't the issue. I would say that if your forum is to do with a subject you are already passionate about then that's 50% of the battle already won. Go for it. you can monetize it with Amazon, live ebay actions for your niche etc, pretty easy really. Best of luck

This is very interesting, thanks for your input.. So linkbuilding to a forum as you would do to any other website would make the forum rank well in the serps..

More often than not, links to a forum are organic and natural as people share that sort of thing all over the place.

Person A - Where would you find a list of shoe stores that sell open toed shoes?
Person B - There is a list on Opentoedshoeforum.com/list-of-open-toed-shoe-stores that I saw last week.

Blog post:

Open toed shoes are perfect for almost any occasion and come in so many diverse styles. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. You can get a super list as to where to buy them on Opentoedshoeforum.com as that is the go to site for all things open toed. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.

But you can backlink it just like a "regular" site as well if you want, and although I've never done any backlink analysis on a forum site, I'm sure it is done.

Ok, i will start the forum and the blog. I will make an update in a month or so. so i can tell you if there is any money in this.
Monetizing= affiliate and maybe ads.

I've had experiences with forums and social sites, you need a huge audience and a lot of content to be profitable in the long run, not to mention it needs to get to a point where it can be 95% self-sustaining, before that there really isn't quick money to be made with this.

Another important thing is don't depend on ads to monetize, the best practice is to monetize using a subscription based system in place, but again, you need to have some authority before that happens.
