EMD and PMD in 2016?

I apologize for the noob question. I have tried searching for this information but was unable to find what I was looking for. Is using an EMD or PMD still a good strategy in 2016? I appreciate any feedback.

Could be in certain circumstances but I wouldn't recommend it. Build a brand and you'll get more authority from search engines. Google laid down the hammer on a lot of EMD sites over the past few years

If you're targeting a low comp keyword with a small niche site go for EMD, if you can't get it go for PMD.

Thanks for the quick responses. Sorry I wasn't more specific. This is indeed a low comp, small niche site I am looking to build. The keyword I'm targeting doesn't necessarily warrant a huge build out (in my most humble opinion). I'm thinking 20-30 pages max.

I am also curious about any free (I do all the work) or inexpensive link building strategies that may benefit an EMD in a small niche.

Some here have said that Google is more suspicious of EMDs for blackhat linking. So if you're planning on using it for some quick and dirty stuff it might not be as powerful as it was or as safe. I cannot verify those people's opinions though.

But lets not act like EMDs are bad. Nobody here would turn down the EMDs like usedcars.com for instance. A good EMD has both brand value and search relevance. Things like purplecelingfansforapartments.com don't share the branding appeal and are too long/spammy. So the trade off is worse to me in those cases.

As long as an EMD isn't too long or overly specific then I love it personally. But its not the end-all-be-all it once was. And its no promise of automatic rank domination.

EMD ranks about 11% higher than non-EMD. But the work behind is the same. A domain name is like 1% of the work, if not less.

For a small niche EMD is fine, otherwise go for a brand name preferably with decent backlink profile.

I have PMDs but from years ago. I probably wouldn't buy any more.

Branded domain. Very good on-page SEO. Quality content. Google will figure it out. I've got spam test sites that rank for terms not related to the domains ie hotel site ranking for business kws.

#EMD/PMD they are the domain names that you want to rank well for it could be a phrase or very well known brand name. It is ll fine and keyword phrases are good but remember SEO is much more than a domain name.
#If you have EMD or PMD don't assume you are following a bad trend.Just be careful to build valuable content and focus less on optimization
#If you don't have an EMD don't worry continue to follow appropriate optimization guidelines and give each page an obvious focus.
#Keep the content applicable and fresh pay attention to SEO trends and Google updates and you should be well on your way to better rankings.
