Hello everyone.
I'm trying to build my first website which will be an Amazon Affiliate eCommerce store.
One of the hardest parts for me is rewriting the product descriptions and I need your help to clarify some things.

I know it's bad for SEO and google rankings to have duplicate content, but when you say duplicate you mean duplicate content on MY site (like having the same description for several products) or on other sites having the same info as mine?

I don't have the budget to pay a copywriter so I'm doing it all by myself. The thing is, how do you rewrite a description that has about 300 words? Do you need to rewrite about the same amount of words as it's original description? What number is good?
Or it can be 2-3 lines since they can see all of the info in Amazon?

I also tried various spinners but they all seemed crap to be honest.

And last question:

How much percentage % should be enough to pass as unique content? I rewrite almost everything but cannot alter dimensions, sizes, colors and stuff like that so copyscape finds always finds results with the same product on other sites.

This is really tiring, time consuming and frustrating.
If I rely on social media and not google is it still necessary to do this? Can I be banned from Amazon for having the same content as them?

How if I just skip all this and not have unique descriptions and just have unique articles on my blog section?

I would be grateful for your answers!
Thank you.

You can use Spinbot for rewriting the content of description into a unique one.
It'll change the description in the other words easily.

I'm also just getting started, but with a Shopify store. Writing product descriptions is very important, not only for seo purposes, but to persuade your visitors to buy from you.

I've found this article very helpful.

I'm by no means a good copywriter, but I am giving it a shot to write my own product descriptions myself.

If all else fails, i'm sure there are some real good copywriters here in BHW that have worked on eCommerce sites before. Maybe one of them will post here in this thread and give some helpful hints, or PM with some price quotes.

Trevor is 100% correct, the description is your sales pitch. For some of mine (the ones I was not worrying about SEO with) I just copied from a big retailer. My testing has shown that those convert much higher.

Well.As you cannot afford copywriters and have to do it all by yourself, my sincere advice would be not to duplicate the material available on different sites. Even if you write less, use your own words and make it unique. It will be frustrating but will be worth it. good luck :)

Thanks for the replies guys. But how many words do you think will be acceptable on average?
Do you write whole articles for product descriptions?

I guess it depends on the niche and what others do in that niche. For me, most are just short descriptions.

Use article spinners to spin the previous description into a new one.
There are many articles available for spinning content into unique one.
You can use Spinbot for free.

Spinners work, but to a limit. They have more than their fair amount of screw-ups, and I find that even for a 300-350 word article, the end result looks much better when I rewrite it in my own words, even if it means spending 15 minutes on each article.

Either way, once you use a spinner you need to proofread it to make sure it did a good job, so might as well just do that from the beginning, and at least this way all your content will share your writing style. For users with even a little experience, seeing one website with 6 or 7 writing styles is a warning flag that something's not quite Kosher

Outsource that! I would. I'ts a pain trying to do all that yourself, and it will save you tones of time and money in the long run.
