This is only half of the story. The other half, the most important one, is analyzing the backlink profile of each competitor in the top 10. Those tools you mentioned won't give you any info about hidden PBN-s, backlink quality, etc.. of each domain. You need to dig deeper than that to ensure a profitable SEO campaign for your selected keywords!
Great guide, thought I'd post this here as well as on my thread, this way anyone else that is wondering the same thing can learn from here too.
When I normally check keywords on Google I'll just add the keyword but with quotations: "keyword", I noticed you don't do that, what's the difference.

You get broad search results for the keyword without " " and with them, you get exact so you know your competition. Here is the official explanation from G:
When you put a word or phrase in quotes, the results will only include pages with the same words in the same order as the ones inside the quotes. Only use this if you're looking for an exact word or phrase, otherwise you'll exclude many helpful results by mistake. Example: "imagine all the people"
