Guys: Kindle is the Ticket!

But your better having 1 book with 500 pages than 10 with 50 as it is easier to get 1 person to read 1 book. Then you scale that book by adding more pages so existing readers go back to it and then into a series of books.

Good advice! Does it makes sense to make bundles of shorter books and increase the number of pages in that manner? So if there are 5 books with 100 pages each, a bundle of those 5 books will become a consolidated read of 500 pages. If there are more frequent releases(say 5 in this example, spread over a period of 2-3 months) it will mean more exposure, and a bundle will mean more pages read.

Hi everyone,
Great to see such interesting thread growing!

1) I have a video course "How to become best-selling author on Kindle" (value of $99) which I can share with you if you are interested

2) Question for OP and/or other professionals in this area.
My friend published a book on interesting topic (which still remains trending in the world: Russian-Ukrainian War, Maidan, Geopolitics)
He followed my advises (Black cover to be more attracted, and others) but got not so many sales (I think may be around 30 most of these people were those to whom he, me or some other friend sent a link)

What is wrong with it? Lack of promotion? But he posted about it where he could - niche sites, social media
And to advertise won't be wise as price is only $0.99

Here is the link for you to check this case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...2&tag=geopolitical-20&linkId=K2IMTSICWJETYVTX

Hey I make a full time income on Kindle.

Basically you can't sell shit. I haven't even looked at the page other than a few keythings. The cover is bad. The cover is one of the most important aspects of this business. Ask yourself, why would anyone even click on my thumbnail to read the description when others does it better? Another thing is that you only got one review = no authority.

What's wrong with cover?
Also how many reviews do you think is needed to achieve authority?
May be you can share with forum some tips on getting reviews

The cover is poorly done, the text isn't even centered. It's just straight up ugly, I'm sorry. It looks like something a 10 year old spent 5 minutes on in Photoshop. The lesson here is, if you don't got a sense of design or skills in this field, pay someone who does to do it.

Regarding reviews and all the other questions that may come, please read the whole thread, you should learn some. Then get a course teaching kindle publishing, you will learn a bunch. It's definitely worth to pay for if you're serious about this and then they are all up to date. However, if you don't want it, you can get some outdated versions of kindle courses on this forum if you search for it.

OK, I admit that I never read every post. I have written three kindle books so far but cannot seem to find an easy way to format them. is there some software or something that makes the formatting easy. not Fiverr.

LOL, in my rush to ask the question I asked above - in have only just seen that there are 46 pages here. 46!!!! I am pretty sure that the questions and answers here are the equivalent of a full course on its own. wow - 46 pages. well done for generating such interest

I have read just about every post in this thread, over the last year.

I've assimilated the info, tweaked some things, found my niche and created a system. Everything anyone needs is here.

I would start a q&A thread for a day or something, but I really think anything that could be said has been covered here already.

although I do have a question that I don't think was covered in the nearly 2 years and 46 pages of posts through this thread.

When a book reaches a best seller, I read sometimes that people like to take screen shots of it.

Why?

Just for personal recognition?

That's one reason but it doesn't stay Bestseller forever, so often screenshots are taken as something to post on their future books, their webpage, or just about anywhere else that would generate interest. Someone who "was" a bestseller will increase their selling point if they can show it. I see so many books with text "from blah number blah bestseller" and I always roll my eyes.

I published 30 books already, some i wrote myself and some i outsourced. Took me 7 months in total while i worked my 9-5. I'm now making 5-10 dollars a day. I think kindle isn't as easy as it used to be. The friend that got me started was making upwards of 5k a month and says now his income has dropped significantly. I think nowadays you need high quality books that cannot be outsourced for cheap.

Based on you having 30 books and only making $5-$10 per day I would say your books are not very big.

Kindle select now pays per page read. So the bigger the book the more you get. I also have one of my series that has about 30 books in it that I created before Amazon changed how they pay on Kindle Select. I made the books bigger and now that series averages about $1000 per day.

So take the books you have that have traction and make them bigger and watch your income increase, rather than adding new books. Then when you have a system for doing that, add new books as well.

What genre are you writing? I'd be happy with $50-$100 a day! In fact as its supplemental income i'd be happy with $100 a week!

Always wanted to write a non-fiction book, but in my speciality the market is flooded.

Yes but it's flooded with crap. You have to understand that you can still make money even if a niche seems to be saturated. A niche with high competition just means that the "quality barrier" (the entrance into the market to make money) is high. So if you're able to provide this quality you'll definitely make money.

But in most cases a beginner isn't able to provide such a high quality so he has to go into the tight niches first to make his learnings.

How long did it take to reach this level, and how many books did you generate per month or week? How long are the novels?

Well Amazon only changed their system back in July, so I only bothered expanding the books then. I have multiple series, this particular one's books are about 2000 pages in length each and I try to publish something weekly.

Question on Marketing when you're a new publisher:

For you veteran kindle guys (like GringoMonkey, Pinger, etc..) I understand how you guys have built up an audience so new releases get lots of sales and so on. Great work!

What marketing tips can you offer new publishers? I mean besides "offer quality products". That's a given as far as I'm concerned.

I'm talking "non-fiction" titles too. Is it worth the time/money/effort to do free book announcements and whatnot any more? Or is it just "make sure you have GREAT quality and let KDP do the rest?"

I get the whole idea of putting out larger books because of the "per page read" payments. That's not an issue for me and neither is HIGH QUALITY content and covers.

I'm just curious if there are other tips or resources you can recommend to get off the ground in TODAY's kindle publishing world. Everything I've seen elsewhere is basically centered around the old system.

Money for marketing is also not really an issue (within reason of course).

Any advice is MUCH APPRECIATED. Thank you!

I would not recommend to invest money in external marketing, as long as you have not exhausted all of the free possibilities.

It starts with the possibilities inside of Amazon: It's absolutely clear that you need a perfect cover, perfect keywords, perfect description, high quality content and so on. But have you ever thought about the perfect pen name? Every niche has a specific audience, with particular preferences. Do they want to read a book by a male or female author? What age do they prefer? Should the name sounds short and hard, dynamic, traditional or maybe soft? How would the person look like? (> choose the perfect photo for your pen name). What could be the perfect story behind your pen name? And at the end you should write your book(s) from the perspective of your pen name! (Providing good information is not enough because everyone can do this). Finally you should give your target audience exactly what they want even if they're not sure that they want it. They want it subconsciously. That's psychology, that's marketing, that's your primary job! :) (and not to buy Facebook ads). So you should invest your money into knowledge about marketing, psychology, how to analyse your target audience, how to manipulate people with your writing style and so on. Success is just based on the right descisions and you need logical reasons for every step that you make. So if you can't give yourself the answer why you're using this font on your cover, this pen name, this sentence in your biography etc. you should learn about it. Otherwise your success is pure luck.

THANK YOU! Excellent post with outstanding insight and great tips. Very much appreciated!

Incredible post, Pinger.

I understand that you're mainly in the fiction niche.

However for someone that is more in the non-fiction niche
and is creating short 6,000 words or less books.

Would it be better to just stick some of the smaller books together, in order to get higher page count, and give more value versus, sticking with a higher amount of books. As well as multiple pen-names.

Thanks
