Former Affiliate Manager Here Spilling CPA Secrets

Exactly, there is a lot more to it than first meets the eye.

Your post taken with a pinch of salt......my bank manager would not agree with you re cpa companies not paying out. Need names and proof before l believe anything
Your reading comprehension should be taken with a grain of salt.

He didn't say they don't pay, he said they shaved, and they decide when to not pay.

I'm very sure Linkshare shave like a motherfucker, I'm sure CJ shaves some but not much.

Great post. For those interested in hiding their traffic from the networks, check out Landing Page Builder (http://www.simplifiedses.com). It's dynamic so you can build thousands of pages in a few seconds, and it has a built in double meta refresh to hide your referrer from the cpa network so they don't know the source of your traffic. That's how I hide all of my CL and Yahoo Answers traffic from my merchants. You setup a keyuword group in the system, create a template, then send all of your traffic to the index page. The system analyzes the referrer and shows them the offer that is the closest match. They then get double meta refresh redirected to the offer and your traffic is clean :)

Money Man, I really appreciate you taking the time to post that information! Seems like there is a lot of things involved with starting your own CPA company, I would bet it is very lucrative if you could get it up a running.

So basically the cost to get a network would be:
Initial investment:
*DirectTrack - $12,000
*Start from your basement or rent a little office, computers, furniture etc. let's say $5,000~$8,000
Monthly layout:
*Direct track - $1800
*Employee or 2 to get going - $3-4,000
*Rent - $1,000
*miscellaneous - $1,000
These are rough numbers and just aprox. just to get started, depends how you play the game.

Bottom line- if you don't make a penny in 6 months, it cost you a TOTAL of $50-70K.

Now if you have this bankroll the contacts, experience and know how you can expect to at least brake even in the first 6 months.
From there, it's gravy. The expenses are miniscule compared to the amount of money you can make.
But --- YOU GOT TO KNOW YOUR SHIT!!!

Our company will be launching an affiliate network in the next 6 months. We're certainly not using the junk that directtrack puts out though. We've been developing and testing our own tracking solution for the past 12 months. It blows anything they have out of the water.

Anyhow, the only reason I bring this up is the fact that our network is offering complete transparency showing which offers and merchants allow black hat traffic. We also protect our affiliates as much as our merchants. It's something lacking in the industry. We're in private beta now with a few hundred affiliates/merchants, but keep an eye out ;)

You think your stomach aches now, wait until it happens. eBay, Amazon, those affiliates are not laughing.

Buddy, why would they ban PPC? I thought they used affiliates as guinea pigs to figure out the converting keywords....THEN -> ban those keywords.

But ban it all together? Why when you can use someone elses cash to test? I could've sworn you said it yourself in this thread.

Why pay commission to someone who is driving up the cost of your keywords?

Okay, point.

Buddy, what % of the total advertiser payout was the network getting? I used to do a LOT of edu leads. I'd usually get paid $20-$25. How much was the advertiser (usually an aggregator - easier to deal with than directly with unis) paying to the network total?

i.e. Advertiser payout = network commission + my commission?

How much to the network? Just curious if I was making them mad cash or just a little. When I got near $10k/mo my AM @ MB was all up on nuts and flirty as hell saying "they wanted to me my sole provider" or something like that.

Disclaimer: I am no where near $10k/mo now...:(

Excellent post! Can't wait for the counter tactics.

It depends on the offer, some offers we only have a $4 cut say advertiser pays us 40, we pay affiliates 36. Some are $10-15. Also each network is different Ive seen some networks taking offers they got $50 for and giving the affiliate $20. Bigger networks *can* up payouts and still make bank by sheer volume. So theres no set answer to this question. Alot of networks also setup different pay levels depending on the affiliates level of traffic. Super affils will make more on every offer. Also broker to other networks. Theres a whole lot that goes on behind the scenes. Network A gets offer for $45 gives it to normal affils for $35, gives to other networks and super affils for $40 etc. You have to figure a network has alot of overhead usually to pay out of their cut. Office, electronics, employees, commissions etc etc..

Hope that helps some :/
