CPA networks sound really evil! Thanks for the post. It may be common knowledge to most of the BHW folks but not to me. I look forward to your next one.
This is an example of how one network works, not everyone works this way. Also this has to be a network on their own tracking software, not someone using DT, as DT doesnt have the ability to do what the OP says his networks software can do.
I can only think of 3 networks who use their own software, and based on rumblings on other boards i think i can narrow it down to one network
Also some of the things being done sounds like its on the advertisers side, not the network, such as the 20 bad leads, since a network doesnt capture the data submitted they would need the advertiser to tell them it was bad traffic
I'd like to point something else out that no one else has - there are THREE parties (usually) in a lead generation transaction:
1.) You (the affiliate)
2.) The network (the "middle man")
3.) The advertiser
#2 (the network) is in many ways a "double agent." Above all else, his goal is to make money. If that means screwing over #1 (you) or even #3 (the advertiser) - AND THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT then they will do so.
But the point here is that the the aff networks aren't always your enemy.
Often times, they're your partner in crime where the victim is the advertiser.
The networks loved me until/when the advertisers complained.
Then of course, they point the finger at me and throw me under the bus.
I have to admit, pretty good business model for making $$ and protecting yourself from legal liability.
But if I did it, I'd rather die than explain to my grandmother what I do for a living.
No offence here, but your post didnt bring any news under he sun for the majority here.
Networks also shave WH leads. They keep the small ones happy with a couple of breadcrums, be friendly to the big players and fuck with the guys who are not valuable enough for them.
Fact is, a greyish lead or a black lead who converts brings in cash for all parties, they know that.
I see it like this. I know they fuck me, so i fuck them back. Thats life and my 2 pesos.
man all network shaves what is best to do is to try talk directly with the company and jump over tHE AFFILIATE Network i mean when i first started with ringtone offers i emailed to a big ringotne site ( to where my cliks where going form affiliate networks) you can promote them directly and fukign jump the affiliate companys just get in contact with the big company and tell them you want to promote them directly because affiliate networks are shaving grrrr cople more days till payout can;t wait to fukign dump all affiliate networks
OO btw from my experience i think they have some kind of option in their software like "hmmm i suspect this affiliate is doign bh k set teh shaving on him at 90%" or like "hmmm he is new to our network lets pur shaving to 0 first 2 month then increase the shaving 10% -20% 30%" my guess is that all networks increase teh shaving the way your traffic increse i mean u get 1000 uniq good guality the shaving is 1% u get more teh shanving will increase"
some of your words are acceptable and some are unacceptable.but ppc marketing should not be banned because those are real leads and if they stop us from using ppc then the cpa networks have to shut down because they majority of money makers from ppc marketing.
@ buddyboy: I'm not so sure I agree with The CAN-SPAM Act being written for and by Google. I believe a lot of the big ISPs had a say-so in the matter, definitely, but Google because of AdWords? I seriously doubt it. I don't think spam in general was affecting Google as much as one would think. Hell, there is still a lot of spam going on to this day (not just E-mail spam) and it doesn't seem as if Google is hurting that badly.
Thanks for the tips though; most I already knew but some I didn't.
I am almost sure I know the network he might have worked for. Though I sorta think he is just making things up.
Anyway, It would be possible to "shave" in the fashion he is speaking on direct track. The one thing I wonder is how to get around the shaving he claims. Here is my take on it.
So when a "user" clicks our offer when it redirects to it the network will redirect some to keep, if that is the case would trying to "stuff" the cookie for the offer work in keeping all the leads you deserve.
Most of what the op said has been said here before but I did find it interesting.
I agree with aolandaol that the way to get around them is to go straight to the advertiser. I have already done this with a couple of my niche sites. The advertiser may disqualify leads but it is the network that shaves the leads from you.
That post was dope! I do take some of the stuff you said with a grain of salt, because I'm a natural skeptic, but the writing was excellent. Looking forward to more.
