Hello
i have a site in which i have added same article multiple times.
Will Google penalize my site rankings?
and most important can google block\ban my site from google search engine by posting same content again and again?

You posted the same article multiple times to the same site, and you want to know if you will be penalized?

Yes, you will be penalized.
Yes google will de-index your site for such behavior if it is severe enough.

There is nothing about this strategy that is good in any way whatsoever. We are all stuck wondering why it would occur to you to do this anyway.

I'm not sure if Google will penalize you for it, because I know article directories likely have duplicate versions of the same content. I don't believe they are hit hard by this, but simultaneously, I can't possibly even begin to imagine how it would help. I mean, if anything, they would essentially nullify the other post, giving it no weight.

Thank you bro for your kind reply.
Yes, i was thinking the same. Many of article directories have same content multiple times on there site.
In my site too people post copied content from my site and other sites. So i was worried about domain\site blocked by google or decrease in ranking.

Yes I am sure that you will be penalized for it. Duplicate content is huge no no.

Yes it would, and also it makes you look bad to be honest

No, there is no duplicate content penalty. If you post it internally, they are good at filtering 1 and ranking the other where it should be. You dilute your rank, though, if you post the same content across multiple sites. It's not a penalty though.

Yep. Getting sandboxed is the biggest penalty ever imo. There is no way you would ever be able to recover your website from there lol. So it makes sense to be the 'nice guy' and not try to game google. ;)

I think I read somewhere that if you publish your article on your website before submitting it to article directories then your own website would rank just as good. Not sure how far it is true though. About the sites that copy from you, they too would get sandboxed in due time; just wait and watch

It is okay to copy 2-3 articles from here and there but if you are planning to copy an entire site, Penalty is on its way.

I would rather not do it at all, but if any webmaster insists, this is a nice tool to use

Why have you thanked the person above who confirmed what you think you knew OP? I advised you 100% correctly of the outcome of the situation you described. You guys don't think these article directories got bitch-slapped for their duplicate content?

They DID. They lost tons of ranking. Some of them even got de-indexed. But they only had content that was re-written. You said yours was completely duplicate content.

Go above, and thank me for my advice when you figure out your site has been de-indexed for simply lacking common sense.

There is plenty of information available on the WWW for you guys who think it's still 2009 out there. Try researching Blog Farms, or what actually happened to these article directory's rankings during recent Google algorithms since you clearly have no idea what you're all talking about.

Duplicate Content has it's place and usage in any good SEO campaign, but that is NEVER on-site.

Read my quotes (and Techxan's) below from many previous threads. That should help you find the answer you're looking for.
That entire duplicate content issue confuses many members on this forum.

  • Some members say that there is no duplicate content penalty at all.
  • Some members think the duplicate content penalty is the same as the pure spam penalty.
  • Some members think even having 1 duplicate sentence on your site is grounds for a penalty.

While the Duplicate Content section in the Search Console help page doesn't ever refer to a duplicate content penalty directly, it does allude to some action in the form of a pure spam penalty from a manual review ("However, if our review indicated that you engaged in deceptive practices and your site has been removed from our search results, review your site carefully") being taken against websites with malicious duplicate content.

Anyway, please refer to the posts below.
This is not entirely correct.

Press release sites recently got devalued to the point that most are considered a spam source. Links from them will not help rank.

Any quality site can have duplicate content and rank without difficulty. The "duplicate content" penalty everyone fears does not exist. If it did, there would be only one copy of everything on the Internet. The real threat of duplicate content is when the same content appears on the same site in more than one place, like /tags/author/categories in WordPress.

When people get hit with a "duplicate content penalty" for having a lot of duplicate content, it is really a low quality site penalty. If all your site has on it is duplicate content, it is a low quality site.

A high quality site with some duplicate content on it will have no problem.

If you still do not believe me, search for this:
SteelBalls, you disappoint. Thought you knew better.

You can get in trouble with the law for using copyrighted content.

You can copy anything on the internet, and it will not incur a duplicate content penalty. That is not what duplicate content is.

You might get a poor quality penalty, but not a duplicate content penalty.
It will not get you banned, and it is not a waste of time. In fact if use it and give credit to the original site, it actually helps.

There are smarter things to do, (as steel says), but it is far from a no-no.

And it is not duplicate content. If it were, and Google banned such things, there would only be one copy of anything in the Internet.

News sites would be out of business.
Regarding what SeoWrecker and archon10 said, you can copy a few articles which probably won't rank well but won't be manually penalised, but if you copy an entire site, you'll actually receive a thin content penalty as there is no duplicate content penalty.

People seem to fundamentally misunderstand the duplicate content issue.

Google is trying to find the most authoritative answer to a searcher's query.

If there are 2 webpages out in internetland that have the same information, the search algorithms attempt to determine which one is the more authoritative one and serve that result. The other result will be deindexed and not served as a search result.

In this case, deindexing your page is not a penalty. It is simply the result of choosing which version is the best answer.

This applies on all scales. So if you do not use canonical URLs on your site and you end up with domain.com/category1/your-article-here and domain.com/tag/your-article-here then one of those webpages will be deindexed. Since these pages are on the same site, the results can often appear random and not in the way that you want. That's why most WordPress SEO plugins give you the option of setting the various taxonomies to noindex.

Similarly, if domain.com/category1/your-article-here is the same as ezinearticles.com/article-you-swiped, which do you think Google will determine to be more authoritative? That's right, it's the one with years of history, thousands of pages of content, and millions of users.

So no, duplicate content does not penalize your site, but it may deindex the duplicated content. If your whole site is duplicate content, then obviously nothing is going to be indexed.

Whether or not that matters depends on the goals you are trying to achieve. If, for example, you are using social traffic then duplicate away. If you are trying to rank for organic traffic, then you'll need to add uniqueness.

This is just silly. We are debating semantics about a site that has 100% COPIED content likely from article directories.

You guys can tell this bozo he isn't going to be penalized or pretty things up with quotes from G, or this that and the other thing. In the end ... this is a specific user asking a specific question, and the answer is:

Good sir OP - your entire site will be deindexed, except the portions of it that are completely original content or at least spun to enough degree to make them appear unique.

Every other answer in this thread has completely taken the question out of context - including my own answers above.

Further as SEOs I can hardly imagine any of you are justifying your position about what google does by basing it on what google says. In case you missed it - google has been pretty closed lipped overall about how and why they rank things. So most people figure stuff out in the real world. In the real world a site containing no original content will be completely deindexed.

All of the information pertaining to this users question and situation is clearly contained within this thread. The most important portions of which are that he posted the SAME article multiple times to his own site, then had other people also post the SAME article multiple times to his own site .... not duplicate content ... the SAME article. Further the OP attests later that other people are posting the same articles from OTHER sites on his site too.

This is the definition of malicious behavior regarding duplicate content. This site will be manually reviewed, and then since it is garbage it will be eliminated from the G index.

Why would you guys want him to continue to work a project this flawed?

I do agree with burnett4congress above who said ... it's no big deal if you aren't using G for traffic, but ... if you weren't using G for traffic ... why would we be discussing this absolutely ridiculous topic?

Now once again SEOs I beg of you - stop playing games with words, and answer the questions that are asked directly.

You are incorrect. I am not an SEO wanker. I just fix their shitty mistakes and fix sites where site owners fell for this dumb advice.

Duplicate content, especially internal, is not an issue. If you spam the same content across multiple sites, you dilute your rank, but there is no penalty. Google will pick one version and rank it. That's not a penalty.

Your username is "writingismypassion" and you're asking about duplicate content penalties.

Tell you want OP: why don't you keep the site up? See which one of these guys is right. Then report back with the results. Because honestly, I'm thinking you probably aren't going to take the site down, no matter what other people tell you. Seems to me you believe there is no duplicate content penalty. And technically, no, there isn't. However, malicious duplicate content - a site made up of nothing but duplicate content - will be slapped.

In case you didn't know, malicious means "intended or intending to do harm." See I got that from Google, but I probably won't be slapped with a content penalty because the information I copied was intended to help you, not harm or rip off other people.

So if your intent is to gain rankings using other people's content without their permission and without giving credit then it's gonna catch up to you eventually. Btw, if you know the content is duplicate but you do nothing about it, that's malicious. You're intending to do harm by not letting the original author know you're using their work and not crediting them for creating it. And I don't know about you but I get pissed when people steal what I work hard to create.

Writing really is my passion, and no author worth his or her salt would let someone just steal their work. The fact that you have no problems with this, despite your username, makes me want to pee on your site's eventual grave.

But good luck OP. I hope you find the answer you're looking for.

I think this video should answer your questions about duplicate content.
