Your company not only gets money from the subscriptions but from the referrals too, when people who comes from your website buys a domain. It's good while it lasts, until someone figures out that it's more profitable to get the referral fee without charging the subscription 
.

You would be surprised at how low our revenue is from referrals compared to revenue from subscriptions - and without revenue, you really cannot afford all the data that you really need to deliver real value to the customer. If you are interested in building a competitor (or any software), I implore you to start charging your customers for value you deliver to them. Not doing so will just ensure that you provide poor customer experience and a "lose-lose" for both sides.
