I'm now using Linux Mint 17 64 xfce4 edition its even faster than mate, I'm probably going to delete both MATE and cinamon desktops soon to save up on some space.

Tried many distros, nearly any i tested got some bugs, then i tried linux mint and it worked out of the box with a few little tweaks.

You can use WINE, the windows emulator can be installed on most unix os to run exe's without virtualization.

I've been using Linux Lite, 32bit (12.04LTS) as my main system for over a year now. I have also used Xubuntu for the last 3-4 years, don't really care for stock Ubuntu. On my Windows 7 box I have a copy of Linux Lite in VMWare Player that I use mainly for web browsing. I've tried a lot of distros, but I tend to stick to the Debian based stuff with xfwm/xfce.

So, I've decided to try make a permanent switch to Linux, just because I like "legal" free things.
I've gone with Ubuntu 14.04, because it seems to be the most stable distro in my collection at the moment, as well as having arguably the most support topics on the internet.
I managed to get gimp working a lot like Photoshop, and I've customized the hell out of some other things, to better suit the way I work. I've only used Windows once since I made the switch on Wednesday, and that was just to correct some stupid permissions on one of my NTFS HDD's.
Steam even works, and with a bigger list of compatible games than I expected, so the week is off to a good start

I use CentOs and Ubuntu both. I use them for servers though. For graphics work, linux sucks because you can't run photoshop Yeah, I know there's gimp, but that's nowhere close to PS really. There's another flavor which I use to do some black stuffs ( can't discuss over here lol ). It's named Kali Linux ( previously known as Backtrack) and it's an awesome piece of package to say the least. Install it in your pen drive and you are all set to become a hacker

I use ie8 12.04, and then use virtualbox to run a exclusive ms windows device when I need to run,i never used linux because i think its too tought than others. If you want to use than you must try one of the mentioned operating system instead of linux, linux is good but not only good.

Lol. Thankfully I don't need to manage servers, but linux was a bit of a steep learning curve for me initially too. As user friendly as Ubuntu is, I'm glad I know enough to get by without a GUI, if I ever need to.

Talk about initial difficulties with server management and linux..
I only used ubuntu so far..
I got a digitalocean coupon, made a blank server with ubuntu 14.04 and serverpilot.io to install stuff on the server
I pointed a site to the server ip, and I have no idea how bind the server ip together with the website
What I mean is that when you go to the site, you get to its public folder, which a wordpress install.
But whenever you click on anything on the website, the web address changes to the server ip instead of the domain name.
The domain is pointed to server ip and digitalocean nameservers.
No idea what to do next.
