My guess would be there is something wrong with your hosts file:

So I guess thats what one of the hosts I went with a while ago must have screwed up on. I could go to the main domain but then it went to IP/~cpanelusername for every other page.

I use CentOS for servers. Linux gui's are good for playing around or programming. I prefer the command line in Linux.

I ended up having to go back to windows 8.1 from linux mint, since WGU doesn't accept unix systems and I didn't want to trust a user agent trick when taking tests.

I use xubuntu currently. I'm not too picky as long as I can use apt-get or yum, as I don't like any other package managers. I used gentoo and slackware for a few years followed by arch, and honestly, using the "noob" distros (ie ubuntu, mint, etc) is just so much faster. It's amazing how much I can get done these days compared to when I was mucking around in shell scripts or fighting with portage or the aur. I hear windows 10 is going to have it's own package manager like linux distros have, and that might be a reason to go back to windows for me but only time will tell I suppose.

What Linux you choose should be based more so on what kind of work you are planning on doing most of the time since different versions perform differently, there are loads of benchmark tests you can look at on phoronix.

Over the last year, I decided to change up distros on my machines. My laptops are all Linux LXLE now. I love this distro, even though AntiX os is a close second. My firewall and file server are both running Debian core with no GUI. My media server is Raspian (raspberry pi), and my media players runs on Arch Arm (another Arm based mini PC). With my recent interest in micro-controllers, I have been playing around with more of the ARM based operating systems.

I normally dual boot windows and linux, most software doesn't go well with linux!
