April 21 Is Your Last Chance for Mobile Optimization Before 'Mobilegeddon'

Thats based on my reading of the mobile guidelines. Mobile is about more than being responsive. Its also about being optimized for a touch screen. Large tappable targets, stuff like that. Ever notice how lunky and huge buttons are on large companies mobile sites? Its retarded, but it is what Google THINKS mobile users want... which I hate however. So we will see how this experiment goes.

Its possible your site is already touch screen optimized. But I'd be shocked if many really were. People are in for some surprises. Read the Google guidelines carefully and look at what the big boys have done. That is my best guess for what Google wants to see.

When I do the page speed test the wptouch plugin doesn't seem to work for some reason but on the mobile friendly test it does.

Why they forcing people to change their theme to something mobile friendly? Now all sites will look the same.

I agree, it will result in a HUGE drop in quality. Have you seen what Wired did to their site? Disgusting.

Geek.com has a crappy mobile layout as well, its much easier on a larger phone and tablet to use the desktop layout.

Hello,

According to a recent.......

I'm kind of new here, but I don't think that it has been mentioned yet in this thread that the new update is for webPAGES rather than webSITES! Some people may only be focusing on their home page. This point is made in the "fine print" of GoogleCrack's included link. :) Webmasters and bloggers need to check each individual webpage for mobile-friendliness using the Google Tool. Great thread. :)
