April 21 Is Your Last Chance for Mobile Optimization Before 'Mobilegeddon'

They get more searches from mobiles than they do desktops. So yes they are going to deem it a massive part of the algorithm. Also seeing that 96% of their revenue is from search, they have too keep with the times or else a better mobile search engine will appear.

I still dont see "mobile problem" big enough to make it a part of algorithm factor:) this is just my private opinion and of course I dont believe in Google's "goodwill" ;)

Ive just installed that plug in and passed the mobile test so thanks for that buddy. Only gone as far as activating it, will take a proper look at the settings later and offer any advice i can.

EDIT: At first glance on my mobile i see the homepage only shows blog posts which is nice but not what i need, its a product review site and i would want my reviews on the home page, when i navigate to the reviews page nothing comes up so my first mission is to fix that

Anyway, I got the mobile warning on all my sites then installed the plugin "WP Touch". If you install and activate that it will get your site to pass Googles mobile test. So the bots think its mobile optimized.

Totally agree with you. It is a must, google will penalize you if you dont have it done

You're really missed the plot if and when your sites aren't mobile optimized by now

Such a shame i got a html site xD
Guess ill have to work on a pho script to get the job done lol

None of my money sites are mobile friendly cause the theme I use on all of them is the same, old shitty theme. The reason I use it it's the only theme where I partially understand how to customize the core code. Soon as I switch to another theme I have no idea how to do custom changes cause shit is coded differently and located in different places. Then the I gotta resize / redo / reformat all the graphics and content which will take forever.

But optimizing it for users is gonna be another story. I absolutely can not change themes so I'll probably have to pay someone to make the columns collapse / images shrink like thebostonglobe does. I'm ok at basic coding but advanced shit like that I have no idea how to do. And since I haven't played around with WP Touch yet (other to activate it) I have no idea what its capable of. I need something that can make columns collapse and images shrink.... my form to shrink.... I have no idea how to do that shit.

I used WPtouch for one of my client's websites recently since she didn't have a mobile version of her site. Interestingly enough, I managed to get the mobile version to resemble the desktop site's design. :D

I'm really looking forward to this, my competition is saturated but is full of people who don't know how to build a clean and responsive website, needless to say they're going to drop hard. Their sites have a user experience around 45-60 and mine is 100 ;)

I got Google's 'Mobile Ready' Awesome! This page is mobile-friendly . But W3's 'Mobile Ready'I got 47% is that bad .BTW I already have site got slap in G an it's not mobile friendly

WPtouch is awesome, I just installed it and my site looks even better for mobile. If your using the non default wordpress menu you will have to go to the menu section of WPtouch to switch it.

Lol, I have to try that !

According to some report, this update won't reflect in tablets. It's for smartphones only.

I think its going to reflect the whole of google search as they want you to make your site mobile. This will be the easiest way of them to do so, if you don't they will penalise you.

That won't save you if you don't have a good mobile score. They are two different scores unfortunately.

I heard from one website that it would only affect the mobile SERPs, although I would imagine it would have an impact of the desktop SERPs as well, albeit a lesser one.

And for the record I see this update doing two things:

1) Once again favoring large websites, because they all of course have mobile versions.

2) Causing a lot of crap results outside the big names as people launch tons of spam mobile sites.

So you'll see more SERPS look like this: Best Buy, Amazon, eBay, Macys, spam, spam spam spam spam spam.

Thanks for the info! Most of my stuff is mobile ready, but I wonder if preference will be given to sites with "MOBILE ONLY" versions of a site or is responsive designed mobile friendly sites will be enough to get the job done... Google about to slap us again!

To be honest, if a website isn't mobile friendly it has no place in search results at this point. Way too many people use mobile devices. I understand that bigger conglomerates have 0 chance of being penalized, but people need to stay on their toes and provide a good user experience.

So what this update will ALSO do is weed out the lazy and inexperienced.

I don't think you understand what they mean. They mean different mobile versions being delivered to phones and tablets ON TOP OF a standard desktop version. Simply having a site that loads quick and is easy to use on a phone is NOT what they mean. Your site needs device detection and must deliver a mobile version of your site if a phone uses it. Like when you see m.site.com

How do you know that's what they mean? All I've read about so far is about websites being mobile friendly/responsive, not a whole separate mobile website.
