ok but I was wondering if it's a good idea to use only 1 keyword as your title and then but the actual title in the subtitle. I've seen some people do this.

As Carepolice says it just needs to look natural not like you are Keyword spamming Google!

after a long time reading this post I've published my first kindle book.
Few questions :
-I've hired an illustrator for the cover to have a comic design style. Is it a good or bad idea? I mean, I've not seen any cover in erotica in this style but I don't know if it is bad or not.
- How much time does it takes on average to see the first sell? I know that it depends on quality, cover and so on, my question is about amazon system, if u did it in the right way it starts to sell from day one or you have a "blank period" to wait before the book starts selling?

Hey Angus,
Comic style cover is a good idea, just because no one else (or just a few) does it, that doesn't mean it won't work. Give it a try! You can always change the cover, even if your book is published already.

Thanks Ibazso for your opinion. I also think the same as you but I didn't sell a copy in two days. I don't know if it is normal (that's why I asked in my second question if I have to expect to sell from day one or not), it's my first book, but I did a proper keyword search, one main keyword in title and description, 6 other strong keywords in description. The book isn't bad at all, so my doubt is about the cover, that is why I asked if it is a good idea.

I think readers of erotica prefer real people on the cover. Romantic, love, erotic, feelings etc. is something natural. So the cover art has to look natural too (just my opinion). It's really good that you try something different than your competitors but if it's your first book you should do what works. I think it's important to get decent results at the beginning to get the motivation to keep on publishing the next book(s). But in general it's good to try different things. You can expect sales from day one. Sales will grow during the first day because it needs time to get in the "people who bought this book also bought...-list" of your competitors (but there's no guarantee).
Btw: I've published a 9 part series over the last 3 months. Next week I'll publish the big box set of all episodes for $9,99. I'm excited about the results that I'll get and hope I can increase my income by 1-2k per month only with this collection. I've also 15 unpublished fiction books on my local computer (I expect a minimum of $3k/m) but I'm a little bit tired of working. This business is crazy.

It started off as a controversial Twilight fan fiction. Because of the controversy, it generated a lot off publicity. In order to be able to make money off it, she changed the names and removed all elements of vampires from it. Some smart book marketers then jumped on the book in order to take advantage of its pre-existing publicity.
Essentially, a lot of it was luck. The rest was brilliant book marketing on the part of her agent and publisher.
Anybody ever get a book blocked by KDP? I have one now that's blocked because someone filed a complaint for copyright. Most likely a glitch on their part since it's for a new book that hasn't gone live yet, so how could anybody have filed a complaint. (For the record, yes I own the copyright info; I wrote the book personally. I also contacted KDP Support and am currently waiting for a reply)

If you have 50 reviews on a non-fiction book (not having begged for, faked or incentivized those reviews in any way) , how many sales have you had?
Just trying to figure out how likely a customer is to give you a review. Is it 10% of the customers that give reviews, or 1%
Just asking for the benefit of an author friend. Trying to figure out how popular his niche is.

How have you kindle gurus set up your websites and social media platforms? Do you have one website and a social media profile for each pen name or do you have more like a publishing website and social media accounts for that which promotes all your pen names? Because it seems really hard to have so many twitters, facebooks, websites etc for so many pen names.
As I'm new to the game, getting a book written for me right now aswell as working on my own book in two different niches, it would be easier to have a website for my publishing company for all my pen names aswell as a sharded social media profile. But I would really like to know how you manage that part of the business, I've read almost the whole thread here (everything soon) and I think I've gotten the hang out of the most of the parts about amazon. I've even taken a full kindle course valued about $500 (which I got for free ) and now I'm just really excited to get my books up, all quallity of course.

I have a question I guess for Pinger and the others who are doing very well.
In one of the very EARLY posts in this thread, there was a discussion about using different pen names for good niches, then releasing
High Quality Pen name books, Medium Quality Pen name books, Low Quality Pen Name books -, so, in a sense, you are creating your own competition.
Is this something that is still done. Or do you just ride out the high quality pen name until you can release no more books under that name? But when do you stop if that pen name is selling well?

For non fiction: It's better to build a social media network around a niche (not a pen name). For fiction: Better a network around a pen name than a "publishing company". I made the mistake and tried it with my company but I had no success.

Yes, that's my strategy with the different product classes. Compare it to other markets like the car market: You have different classes for different pockets. But that doesn't mean that cheap cars are bad. Now back to the books: I have 0.99, 2.99 and 4.99+ books in one niche. The target audience is different because some customers want to spend more money ...and some less. And my 0.99 books aren't bad. They have less content, no photos etc. The big advantage of my strategy is: You can build up one business around your different pen names (around your niche). You just need one blog, one Facebook site, one email list etc. The pen names can collaborate with each other, you can use existing content several times (I don't mean copy and paste!) For me it works.
I use this strategy for fiction too. I have a great writer who has his own pen name. But I also have worse writers under different pen names. And I have a "garbage pen name" where I just publish the really bad stories (the stories I got when I started with outsourcing and tried different writers). I just have a blog, fb site, email list etc. for my best fiction pen name.

I've uploaded a book a few hours ago. After 6 hours it was live. No problems. Btw. One of my books is also blocked. It from my beginning time when I tried different stuff. It was an erotic strorie and I think it's was too violent. This was my last pure erotic storie I've ever published and I had no more problems since then.

I've published two books in one erotica niche at $ 0,99. They are not perfoming well (1 sale or borrow day in total). The niche is quite good, I've really nice covers and descriptions. What do you suggest? I put them in the free promotion or it is better to add new keyword in the title and descriptions? I saw many ebooks having a second title made just by keyword in parenthesis, what do you think about it?
