Yeah! Working hard is the way and working smart is the key.

I must say that your idea is creative and very smart. But according to me, it takes time to build and develop a site and get it to such a position that attract the business owners. So basically it takes time. You just said that you have met 50 business owners in a month. Does that mean that you have built all 50 sites and developed them in just one month? That's a lot of work.

You also said that only 31 business owners responded positively. That means 19 websites that you created go wasted. Of course, you can use them later for other purposes. But all the efforts you made to build them get wasted.

How do you feel when you don't get positive response. Won't it be better to just contact them before and say that you can build a better website for them and if they want to see what you can do, then start working on it. I am not sure if this method would work for everyone. But if it did for you, you are really lucky.

But of course, it's a smart idea.

I agree that it takes time and effort to create site to attract business owners. Yet, for smaller businesses which already had their website developed and theirs are outdated, they could smell something fresh plus with some words involve to help the sale.

At that time, the rest 19 websites were not wasted because I just could replace some content with another businesses within the same segment and good to go again. In addition, I didn't say that those 19 businesses rejected my projects but they need to think it.
Currently, I could close the deal 48 websites and 2 rejected.

I'm not emotionally sad when I don't positive response at all because I had a hard time to make a living before.
Within my area, most business owners won't even see me if I just contact them. That's not work for me that's why I changed my plan action to this one.

This method is depend on locations. It's just not work for all but with some tweak it could be good to go, too. Just my thought though!

i just don't think this will work for everyone trust me no matter how proffessinal you are building 50 websites is a lot of work and not to mention you have to design it to make there existing website look like a trash did you forget any info to add to the thread like wherther you have a partner......

Local web developer here. This is one of the best ways to make a name.

Now just put all those sites into a nice portfolio, get a good domain, get some nice business cards, and continue to network. Oh, and jack your rates.

If you're any good, you'll get much more business from word-of-mouth alone

I wouldn't consider those 19 as full waste, OP can change them and sell them to others.

Also, the idea is that you deliver a product to the business owner and not a promise, you can change some small things here and there and deliver it faster than any other company. If you try to sell them a promise they can easily go to other development companies and ask for a second price, which can be lower than your even though the product won't have the same quality.

Everything requires hard work, but OP's success was over what I was expecting. I wanted to try this myself after 7878's method, and this was one of the tweaks that I also did. The sad part is that this require a lot of time, which I'm prepared to invest now

I would add that if the biz owners are extremely unfamiliar with technology, as the OP indicated, then it is a strong selling factor for the OP to have something "tangible" vs the owners having to "visualize" / imagine what he could deliver.

To make this work, the OP has to take a calculated guess as to who he will target, so as to maximize his success rate - he indicated he is focusing on a select industry and when complete, select another.

I won't pry into more details, but it seems the OP has some means, along with intuition, of making a reasonable determination of who he targets. If he just did it completely randomly, he would face a lower success rate and the effort in remaking web sites would become a larger, perhaps too big of a burden.

Remember, from his example, he is in Cambodia. This approach may have less success in, say, the USA.

Most of them will want to see their brand name 1st in google, sell that before they get it naturally

Thousands of other tools you can buy for them as affiliate !

What about Social presence, buy them some facebook...etc likes and their mind will be blown

Yes, this method works well for me too. It all depends on your ability to design good sites and your convincing power.

Yes, in my city, I could say I'm charging with above average price here.
In US, this rate is nothing. Yet, it's here! Not there!

I have no idea about this as I've never in India. Only local people know there environment the best. I can't comment on this.

Even in America, if a person made one a day, five days a week, and only one a week sold, that person would net $100/day, which is better than minimum wage. The trick would be in the sales presentation, to get the business owner to actually buy it--probably more of a First World problem, but maybe not, since the OP is targeting businesses that already have a website, therefore proving they are willing to buy one since they already did.
